. . Dash Wiring . .

. . I love my '66 Parisienne Convertible but I may have to shoot it. .

. . The "gentleman" I bought it from definitely had a different idea of how to repair cars. . Been one thing after another. . Anyway, After replacing the burned and patched together dash wiring, I discovered the dash lights did not work. . Found the dash light dimmer in the head light switch fried. . New switch and I now know why. . There is a dead short somewhere. . .

. . Now a little history. . When I bought the car it had aftermarket gauges under the dash. . When trying to go back to the stock dash gauges I found the wiring had been fried and the ignition switch plug gone. . The ignition switch and aftermarket gauge wiring had been cobbled. . Bought three different dash wiring harnesses. . '65 and '66 are not the same. . Catalina and Parisienne are not the same. . Convertible and hardtop are not the same. . Center console and column shift are not the same. . Finally found a wiring harness that would work but had to wire in a different ignition switch plug. .

. . Now after all of that I find that the replacement dash light dimmer is trying to suffer the same melt down as the original switch. . With the different wiring harness everything works as it should now so can't figure out why (or where) there is a dead short. . Only two things I can think of is the dash light in the ignition switch that I wired in but that would not explain why the original dimmer would have fried. . Or the wires to the console shift light which are still original. .

. . I really am good at diagnostics but sometimes think it might be easier to just keep the old bumpers and replace everything in between. .    confuse

Are you using halogen headlights, the greater draw will burn out the headlight switch.

Parisienne wiring is a combination chevy and pontiac but with an ammeter which is the greatest difference.

Someone may have a wiring diagram that they could post.

. . The problem is in the dash light circuit. . I mis-stated when I said head light dimmer. . I meant to say dash light dimmer. . I went back and edited my original post. . . . Thanks

. . Thank you. . I think this is the same diagrams I have. .

. . Question. . On the first page behind the head lights (lower left corner) is a relay between the regulator and horn relay? ? In the car that relay and the horn relay are all one but still has the main power wires coming from the battery. . What does it do? ?

If you are referring to the first diagram (Figure 94 Engine Compartment) there is only a horn relay.   The printing of "Horn Relay" is beside the 2 conductor connector that plugs into the horn relay which is just above and to the left.
