LOL. Maybe I should sign the dash.
I'd still like a better idea as to what happened to the paint. Seller mentioned vandalism.

Do we know what happened to the paint. I am seriously thinking about acquiring the car and uniting it with the Big Block that resides in my LeMans which was originally acquired by Carl Hicks for Todd, intended to be installed in this car. We know the engine is as stout as they come. Any idea about weight of the Laurentian?

Wow, now THAT would be cool Ray...

Weight of the car you mean? I am guessing but likely in the 4200 lb range?

Brochure says 3810 lbs for Laurentian 6 cyl 4dr sedan, 3990 lbs for 2+2 with V8 and 4110 lbs for Grande Parisienne V8 4dr hardtop, so I'm guessing in the 4000 lbs area.

OK then the LeMans is just under 3700 and the Laurentian just over 3800, so doesn't appear to be a big loss with the big car. I last saw the car a few weeks ago at a cruise in while belting along the highway to the cottage. Did not stop but remarked to my son"Hey that's Todd's car".

Ray, having done it a couple times, I can offer any needed advice on dropping in a big block.  If I recall, Todd had already upgraded to the ralley gauge cluster.

Dont count me out of the race yet. I may borrow the funds and buy it under the business to promote the site. It would be nice to use the car that was the inspiration for Canadian Poncho to help spread the word.

Of course I'll defer to Todd on this one, car needs a big block though.

Would be cool to see you back in it again, Todd.  I hope it works out for you.

If there is a possibility of this, we need to get serious about that fundraising talk when Todd mentioned he'd like to have it back.

If Todd is wanting to do it I'd be willing to bolster the donation I just made to help him to purchase the car.

It should probably be more organized than just sending money in, though, as if Todd is going to get it under the business there are probably some set procedures that have to be followed to make it work tax-wise.  I'm not a businessman, so I'm not even going to speculate on how it would have to be done, though.

OK, here is the problem.

The seller knows that there is only one market, Us !

I want to make this happen and if anyone else is truly behind this we need to go see the car.

I can make myself available for Saturday morning.

Without us it's a $6500 car (sorry Todd)

I like to suggest we meet for coffee in Mississauga Saturday morning and go from there.

If anyone could see the car tomorrow or Friday that would be awesome.

I'll check back here during the day tomorrow and see how this goes

I'm still waiting for photos from Rick and we'll go from there. There will be lots of logistics. I wouldn't mind that if it gets to the point where I am serious about buying it if someone close by could take a look at it for me. I'd cover your fuel. I also need to find an economical way to get it out here. And finally I'll need to figure out where to park it! My garage is too small and she can't sit out here in the salt air. She was well oiled so I know the underneath will be fine. It sounds to me from what Rick has said is a good portion of the laquer paint has come off and there is now bare steel starting to rust. There were several cracks in the paint when I owned the car and I know Ken also did a spot repair on an area that had also done this.

Ok. I got some photos from Rick. This is the lower rear quarter, passenger side behind the rear wheel:

Laurentian.jpg

Rick says the drivers side quarter is similar but in front of the rear wheel

Other photos that are now up on the ad:

She looks pretty much the same as when I sold her. It does appear that most if not all of the paint would need to be stripped and the car properly re-sprayed unless someone can do an excellent match. . The car was very straight so that's a plus.

modern paint can't be put over lacquer so it needs to be stripped.

Todd, is that close to the price you sold it to them for? Do you know if they have done anything to the car?

No, his price is lower. I don't know if he has done anything to it. The battery still looks the same! I seem to recall he said he swapped the Edelbrock carb for a Rochester. I don't really think it has been driven much.

I suspect it won't last long. Rick has several people scheduled to see it tonight and tomorrow.
