Patina preservation


So where is the value in the patina? I know each person must have an individual opinion on this.  

Car is 65 years old and the paint looks original. The flat blue/silver is kinda neat but i don't know how to care for it or preserve it as it is. Once I start with some sort of wax or paint restoration product there is no going back.

See a few samples of inconspicuous paint on the roof and sun shade using simonize step 1 paint restorer. It looks like it could make a dramatic impact on the appearance of the car. But the dull blue look would be gone for a long time.

What would you guys do? Anyone used a patina preserver type product? How did it go?

 I wouldnt do that.......like they say.....a car is only original once. The paint on that is quite nice, if it is original, leave it. Rubbing compound and wax, not too heavy on the compounding

I'm all for making your original paint look as good as it can, by using a paint restorer and wax, etc., but I wouldn't go further than that unless I had a major rust issue (i.e. rust holes).

I am a fan of original paint, and don't mind a few scrapes or dings, or even small areas of surface rust, so I wouldn't paint it.

I love original cars, as much or more than shiny new paint jobs.

So... wax on!  smile

this is old paint .. not orginal ,  so old and cheap that it looks flat.   the roof was metal flake .

I keep a coat a wax on it to preserve whats there...  the car gets nothing but compliments .. even though she's showing her age ..

  Personally.......I feel that SHINY over-restored cars are RAPIDLY going OUT of style....

  When I go to a car show...or cruise night.....I walk right PAST them......unless it's something really special..

 A deteriorated survivor.....tells  a far more interesting story....than an over restored, pimped out Jelly bean/Easter egg. wanna bee/lookalike.....JMO

  And faded paint is just FINE...in My book...

You'd love mine ... and I'm not painting it dammit!biggrin (I might get a couple small rust repairs fixed, "blown in", and then scuff them up to match)

 Now that looks  just plain WRONG..........shiny rust????

 You might as well do the whole car in low luster Armoral.......if you really want to do something......but good luck getting paint to stick to it later...
