As I understand it....in 68..ALL 49 state....396 / 427 4 speeds got pumps....in America...
I'm guessing that it was prolly the same .......for Canadian Pontiacs......as all the big blocks...came out of Tonawanda....and it was unlikely that a Canadian spec big block was built....due to the low sales numbers....
Small blocks and 6's were built in Canada....and would not need to conform to ANY emission standards....other than PCV...
Canadian-built K19? 1968 was the first year for the AIR pump. It came on all manual transmission cars plus all open-element air cleaner cars regardless of transmission. Same for 1969, then for 1970 the smog pump was eliminated for all but the highest performance engines. Transmission Controlled Spark replaced the smog pump in most cases.
Incidentally the AIR pump was standard issue for nearly California cars starting with the 1966 models (some exemptions existed) but could be ordered for other states, but not offered in Canada until 1968 as mentioned.
