LQ4 engine install in a '64 Pontiac

Has anyone done a LQ4 engine install in a '64 Pontiac? If so, can you share the pros and cons that you experienced with the install please. I am considering doing this with my '64 CS and also adding a 700R4. Thanks.

Hi I did that in a 55 canadian pontiac and never looked back, a lot of work but worth it.

As a side note I went with a 4l65E trans that is controlled by the engine. Makes the lock up converter operation a lot less work.

If I can squeeze an LS into a 66 Canso (stock front end) should be lots of room in that 64. I stuck with the 4l60e, this way your programmer can adjust shift rpm etc. Dry fit engine/trans and start figuring out routing for everything. You'll be glad you did once up and running.

First I would like to mention that I personally do not in any way have the knowledge nor the skills that the members of this forum possess. I know I am taking on a project that requires the necessary knowledge and skills to get this done right within a tight budget. Therefore the participation on this thread is paramount to the success of getting this done. Now, I have since posted in error in the "58-64 Full Size Chassis Tech" column a question regarding a differential for this project titled "LS install - need differential answers". Please see this thread and contribute if you can.
In the future I will be attaching all progress to this thread as time goes by. Thanks in advance to all you knowledgeable gearheads.

Not all that knowledgeable....just smart enough to be dangerous.hmm Just to clarify r u going 4l60 or 700r ?? If going with 4l60 you might want to put in the Transgo hd2(part#4l60e-hd2) shift kit with the Corvette survo, otherwise 2nd wont last long. Didn't get mine in untill 3 weeks after driving and it was already starting to go. A lot easyer to do it upside down when it's out and cheaper than replacing trans.

I am in the process of collecting parts to install a 6.0 LQ4 engine with a 4L60 transmission into my '64 CS. I have an opportunity to purchase a 8.2" complete posi and gear set with 3.36 ratio out of a "64? Nova. My question is will it go into my existing diff housing without any problems.
