68 Pontiac Parisienne Tachometer

Hi all, I am looking for a tachometer to install in my 68 Pontiac Parisienne but I have no idea what came as an option for this?

Were they the knee knockers, mounted on the column or in the instrument cluster?

If you have any photos you could post it will be greatly appreciated.  Does anyone have one they would like to sell?

See photo of my instrument cluster these were the same as the Australian Impalas.

Thanks for your time

I'm guessing it was a hood mounted tach like in 1969.

On a Canadian Pontiac there was nothing for 1968 other than maybe a GM universal accessory tach.

But that would only be correct for US models I believe.

On 69 US big cars there was no tach option inside or hood mounted. Only A body and Firebird could be had with a factory installed hood tach and the GP could get a dealer installed hood tach. Of course the dealer or customer could have put a hood tach but that wasn't factory approved.

Peter, Your panel is the reverse of the panel that was in my Dad's '65 Impala SS. His was an automatic trans and had a vacuum gauge installed in the Passenger [ right side in Canada] side large round bezel. I believe the 4 speed cars had a tach installed there. The clock in an SS was in the console. Regular models ie: Impala, Belair and Biscayne had a clock installed in the same bezel if ordered or, left vacant. I think you should be looking for a '65 tach.

In the sales brochure they list tachometer under Optional Extra-Cost Equipment. No picture showing it though. But right under the list of all the options there's a clause: Check your Pontiac Dealer for availability by model and series.

Whoops, forgot this is a RHD with the Chevy dash.

And I suspect that reference model and series, I bet all other Pontiacs had it other than the full size.

Unless I'm wrong!

Thanks all, and thanks Fred good to hear from you. Yes that is my dash, just like the Impala ones.

I have seen quite a few of Impala's at car shows etc over the years but none with a Tacho, only one I have seen is an SS that had one in the console, don't know if it was original

Peter, I stand by what I say. I drove that old SS for years and as in the pics, you can see the vac gauge. The tach fits there.  Get yourself a '65 Chevy full size tach and you are in business! biggrin

Gonna send you some more pics soon. Also, hope you get those tail lights soon.

Fred

Hey thanks Fred, lights are still on their way according to Canada Post Tracking. Checked some 65 Impala Tachs on ebay, they are pricey, might have to look if an Autometer fits in there
