VIN DECODING

Hi Pontiac Lovers!

I just purchase a beautiful 1952 Pontiac Hardtop with a 305 engine. I called her La Fée Verte  in english it means The Green Fairy , in relation with the liquor called Absinthe.

On my Quebec  liscense plate register card it is written    PONTIAC  model TUDOR. I always believe that Tudor was a Ford model. I think it's a Chieftain  or a Catalina. I'm confused, I want to correct this mistake.

Please can someone help me decode my VIN.

Is my car buit in the U.S. as a Chevy and  was import and rebadged Pontiac in Canada?

Or was it  completly built in Ontario?

Thanks

If your car was built in Canada, or sold new in Canada, Vintage Vehicle Services in Oshawa can provide you info on the car, and possibly some of the options it came with:

www.vintagevehicleservices.com/options.html

I'm certainly no expert on early 50's Pontiac's, but a buddy inherited a 51 or 52 two door (which some people spell Tudor) and says it's a Canadian Catalina.

Often the cowl tag will indicate "GM of Canada" on it.

"Tudor" was a term that I think Ford started in the 30's that referred to a 2 door sedan with generous interior accommodations and a longer roof like a 4-door sedan. A coupe by comparison had a much shorter roof and was a little more intimate (closer) inside.

Tudor kind of went on to become a sort of generic term.

Looking at your avatar reminds me of my old open-face Bell Magnum helmet. I nicknamed the helmet "Gazoo".

Also let me say Welcome to Canadianponcho. We'd love to see pictures of your Green Fairy.

Vince, take a closer look at the cowl tag.

I think Model 20-11 (not 2211). Fleetleader Deluxe 2dr sedan.

Looks like it's been removed at some point and reapplied with machine screws and washers.

Model number 2011 is Fleetleader Deluxe 2 door sedan, 6 passenger. Base price was $2293 and weight was 3202lbs. Vin sequence started with 2201100001 and up. According to my source there were no 2 door hardtop Fleetleader's.

20-11 VCould it be
a wrong tag on my car?

Is it the original tag ? Is a hardtop so I 'm more confused than yesterday!

What is the model number of the Hardtop sold in Canada in 1952?

Fleetleader , Chieftain or Catalina.... I know taht Pathfinder started in 1953

It's a mystery for me!

The list we have.. looks to be a Fleetleader Deluxe 2dr sdn...

And, I just went by the tag only.... which has been removed at one time or replaced...

Is there a VIN number on the car other than what's on that body tag? What VIN is on your registration?

The VIN on my registration is exactly the same as on the cowl tag
2201128993

I could not find another number or tag on the car.

I have to stick with one I got even if it 's not the original

Should there not be a VIN tag on the A pillar? Windshield pillar inside the drivers door jam.
