Pontiac 6


I recently came across brochures for the '60 and '61 Pontiac 6 on a site called The Old Car Manual Project. The brochures show Canadian models but only show the 261 cid six as the only engine option. The brochure indicates these models are for sale in various countries. I've also seen a Belgium brochure for a '56 six cylinder Laurentian hardtop and Pathfinder sedan as the only vehicles. 

I wanted to know if anyone had information on these models, where they were sold, and for how many years. Any help or information would be appreciated.

The Canadian built Pontiacs had a 261 from 1955 to 1962, the same years a Chev had a 235. Both Canadian built Pontiacs and Chevs went to the 230 6 in 1963.

Canada built cars for export to Britain, Australia, South Africa, and likely Europe, I'd say all the Pontiacs built for export had the 261.

I've seen numbers on production for export somewhere on this site, but didn't find them when I looked now, maybe someone else can dig them up.

Don - Most of the UK RHD cars in '64 were 283 cars, mine included, in fact I never saw a 6 until an ad appeared on sleazebay about a month ago for a RHD car in Cyprus. It was a four door hard top but I couldn't establish it's origin before it disappeared.   Here's the official model list from back then:

Although the four doors are listed as sedans they were all hard tops.   A friend near me has one but I cannot persuade him to join the forum.

Out of the six 1960 Pontiac Laurentians that are hiding on my place in New Zealand ( holders of the Americas Cup ) five had the 261 six and one had a 283. All manual transmission.

 .........interesting how this shows Bonneville tail lights and shows what appears to be the Canadian V8 sign on the

front quarter panel and almost looks like wide track........hybrid maybe......

Aussie cars had an extra light, Bel Airs had Impala tail lights if built for their market, some law they had. I think they required maybe the amber signal lights? If they imported a Bel Air, they bolted on a 3rd light, like one on the fender of an old pickup.
That is a drawing, not a pic, so the car is likely distorted like many of the old drawings?
