250 HEI in a 194?

Not to up on my 6 cyl's. Will the 250 with HEI that I pulled out of the 4dr fit in the 194 that I put in? Think it will but not 100% sure. Also want to split the exhaust and was wondering if both the manifolds were the same and the 250 would bolt to the 194 intake? Thx Jim

Not an expert by no means but pretty sure that the 194s, 230s, and 250s are interchangeable with almost everything. I had heard of guys putting 194 heads on 250s and so on.

Thx Jerel. Which head is better 194/250?? I know the race guys preferred a head, just don't know which one(thinking 250)? So was thinking must interchange. Have a ton of 235 parts(from 57's) any of them interchange? Guess I'm going to have to do some reading up on 6 cyls!

If memory serves correct, I think they were getting a boost in compression with the 194 head on the 250 but don't quote me on it. I was just happy to have a six that ran and I could have confidence in.

Jim, the 57 235 is a whole different generation of engine. There is nothing that will interchange with the 194 230 250 292 generation of engines.

Jim, when we had Beaumontguru's car in our shop the other day for an alignment, I noticed he has an HEI in it. I'm sure he will be able to answer your questions on this.

Yes, all the 6cyl HEIs from the 1970s era cars will work,  there are 2 styles. one has hte coil on the cap similar to a V* one.  the other has a Devorced coil that bolts to the side of the engine block, a little less clunky looking if you are going for appearance.  thats the one i have in my car, but have run both styles no problem.

Yes the 194 head has a very slightly smaller combustion chamber, and boosts compression apparently,  never tried it.  and i certainly would not want to boost compression on a daily driver with todays crap gas.

I would not recommend a Pertronix in a stock old 6cyl distributor, if you have ever inspected one of thoes, every single on has extreeme side play in the dist shaft(beacuase the housing is aluminiuim.  It will screw up the signal on the lobe sensor and fail pretty quick.  i have heard that from a number of sources, so have never used.  I do run a pertronix on my V8s tho,  no problems, love them

Yup what Dave said. Done it before, works great, have an HEI to put on KC's car.
Now which 250 do you have? not that integral intake head lump like I have.. Nothing from the head of that is compatible with the 194.

I was lucky I guess as I ran Pertronix in mine for close to 30 thousand miles (which I guess isnt a lot) but it sure ran good and didnt miss a beat.
