Shipped my dash and console off to Just Dashes...

Definition of mixed emotions?  I was so happy that FedEx, at my third location attempt, was willing to pack and ship my dashboard and console.  Then I got the email with the $386 bill!  That's a lot of money to go from WA to CA.  But this is the life we chose, I guess.

Here's a blue one from their website:

Wow. I find your discussions on the various aspects of this restoration absolutely eye opening and enlightening. Please keep it up to educate those of us who would hope to follow and emulate you. I can't tell you how much I appreciate learning (what I'm able to absorb) from you. That car will be an awesome sight when it is finished.

That's true! If ever there was a car where breaking open the piggy bank was worthwhile- I'd say this is it.

The quote on the dash was $1600 plus $200 for not being black. Console is another $900-$1200. Interior estimate came back at $6K yesterday, so by the time you add in the NOS gauges and NOS heater controls and speedo, I'll be at $10K in the interior. And that's with me doing "sweat equity" on all of the R&R labor myself.

Rear end will be around $3K, motor around $5K, trans around $1500. Chassis is $1200 for powder plus another $800 for lines and cables plus maybe $500 for bushings, another $10K into the chassis. I imagine $4-5K in chrome and polishing (maybe less, unsure). Then the body is going to be $30K at a minimum I'm sure, but I don't have any estimates yet.

These things add up. I'm not throwing these numbers around to impress anyone, it's just what it costs, and I'm not the first guy to restore a car to a reasonable level. If it were a Hemi 'Cuda it'd be a good investment, likely, but it'll wind up costing a lot more than these cars are worth, so it's still kind of a sentiment-driven build in a way. Good thing for this particular car I happen to be sentimental about Canadian 1969 full-size Pontiacs... because it's rough. But it'll get saved!

Thing is you could always do it for less... don't rebuild the rear and trans, don't rebuild the steering box and recore the rad, just do cosmetics.  But I'm shooting for new so that's what I'm doing mechanically as well.

It'll be cool to drive it "as new" when done, I hope!  It always takes a little time to sort a full restoration, but these cars do drive very nicely, I think.  F41... hard to say!

Well done, I feel your pain, I am doing exactly the same on a 68 Parisienne, as new or better on everything, no less. It's her build birthday this year so I think she will be a pretty good looking 50 year old.

Have tracked down many NOS parts for her over the last 10 years. At least you do not have to ship things across the pacific, freight has killed me over the years.

I also know I will not get my money back but, mine is also sentiment driven.

I always loved the look of that car hence why I worked three jobs for 18 months to buy it when I was eighteen, that was nearly 30 years ago now and my wife was taken to the church as a bride in that car so i cannot put a value on it.

I Look forward to seeing her finished, all the best!

It was hard enough working on cars up in Canada when I was a teenager, pre-Internet. Everything cost 2X at least what it did in the US, no one wanted to ship to you... so I can only imagine you face an order of magnitude worse being overseas!

Conversely, for my suspension pieces, I entered the GM part numbers and they showed up in 24 hours with my groceries from Amazon!
