Convertable top options

So i have a 64 cs rag and i will not be able to fix pistons and or lines in time for summer, its just not in the budget this year as i try and buy what i need each pay day, still need exhaust and hand full of otherthings, is there any way i can disconect the pistons and use the top by hand or is there more to it. Any info would be great thanks.

Should be able to remove the top bolt on the cylinders and operate the top by hand. Just tape up the pistons so they don't flop around and get in the way. The whole system, pump, lines, and cylinders may come out as a unit

Yes, but the lines get pretty twisty. I disconnected the pump and lost a bit of fluid (which can be replaced) to make it easier. DON'T compress the cylinders once you have the lines disconnected or you will have a nasty "super-soaker" gun!biggrin

I've been putting mine up and down by hand for twenty years without undoing anything. (Hardest bit is standing on the back seat to pull it back up) I have two new cylinders to install this year, so I guess I'll find out if I've damaged anything then!

a '64 may still have brake fluid in the system. Around that time there was a switch to tranny fluid.  So be careful as brake fluid is a great paint remover. If you do have brake fluid I would suggest you flush the system and switch to tranny fluid.
