1966 GM dealer invite performance show?

Here's one I've never seen before. And it includes a flying B body chassis!

A drag race between a '65 409 vs. a '66 396, a neat Turbo Titan III gas turbine truck. The rest just looks like everyday traffic (you know, up on 2 wheels, weaving in and out in close proximity, smoking the tires... wink )

Back at the long lead press previews GM would invite automotive journalists to preview next year's models prior to official unveiling. The press was invited to beat the living crap out of the cars, followed by wining & dining. Hopefully some good press was the result.

Neat clip, Mark. Thanks for posting.

I was working for GM at the tail end of these big dollar events. I remember going to a "Ride and Drive" event back in 1998. I think it was one of the last ones they did. We went to an abandoned military base near Toronto. There were all kinds of events- an area where you could drag race a Supercharged Regal Vs a Dodge Intrepid, an off road coarse with 4x4 vehicles. An area where you could beat on police spec cars etc. They'd feed you a great meal and I won a Cadillac lamb skin jacket which I still have. At the end of the event we all drove Sunfire's with some special value package back to our dealership.

I like the footage of the Vette coming in at top speed kicking up road dust and all. Man that thing storms.

And the BB Caprice reverse and drive drops. Ouch!

That has to Chris Economaki at the start in the lift.

I bet some of those cars ended up in normal distribution as "company demonstrators". I feel bad for the poor bugger who ended up with that Caprice doing the reverse and drive drops!
