Dumb and bizarre comments

I think this thread should be for all those strange comments we get as car owners, regardless of year.

I have  a 51 Pontiac 4 door which I keep in my garage covered up, so even if my garage is open, no neighbours see it. I bought a parts car last summer exactly the same year and specs, thinking I would pull off some trim pieces and whatever and then just scrap the rest. When the car showed up, and as it sat in my driveway I would get looks and comments like you sure have a lot of work ahead of you there heheh.

I eventually did what I had to do and scraped the car. But now when I drive my real car out those same people walk by and are amazed that the car is now running. Tonight I got wow you got that thing running and did so much body work.

What can I say people are idiots.

Pic is of the scrap car. I loved the patina colour on this car.

The world is full of dumb and bizarre comments! You only need to scroll a few pages on Facebook to see that.

I still can't get over some of the stuff I see on Kijiji. eg: Bumpers are often referred to as "bumbers" and rotors are "routers". Brakes are "breaks". How many different spellings have you seen for "Parisienne"?

I would just let them think you are a real genius, and that you turned trash into treasure.

A neighbour of mine whom I nickname "The Mosquito" and other neighbours nickname "The Village Idiot" has an interesting theory on under what environmental conditions pressure-treated lumber rots*.

*I do know PT lumber eventually rots, but his theory has to do with whether it is facing a body of water (no matter how far away the body of water is).blankstare

The Parisienne one irritates me along with the famous marquis as marquse or marqise - Its on your freaking car go look! Or there is one right now 1987 chevrolet caprice with a "Chevy" 307 - ya, no!

I just got a reply from a guy in New Brunswick selling a Jeep part I want. I asked if he would ship to PEI. His reply: "If you can find out the shipping cost I'll send it to you".

Um.. I don't know the weight of the part, or the size of the box he is using... confuse

Ha ha... I agree with that.  Nothing wrong with your neighbors thinking that you are some kind of miracle worker, as long as they don't start wanting you to perform the same kind of miracles on their cars... wink

A number of years ago i took my 57 Pontiac to a big show in western New York. My 57 was parked with the hood up and i was showing off my 261 in liner six. I over heard someone say to someone else........... "Here is one of those Canadian abortions." I wasted no time in saying to the fool.......... " I am real proud of my Canadian abortion." He was embarrassed, by the look on his goofy face.

I ran an add on Kijiji to sell my 1956 Pontiac and specified it was a standard transmission. Had a guy call about it all excited to find an old car like that with an automatic as he couldn't
drive a manual. I explained to him it was a manual transmission. A week later he calls again to inquire if I'm sure its not automatic...sheeesh.

Not dumb or stupid just uniformed but its pretty common for me to hear "Pontiacs never came with Chevrolet Engines."

Of course we all know that Beaumont SD's are Canadian GTO's right?

Could go on for pages.....

The most common statement I hear is, "I or my parents, had one exactly like this but it was a hard top and different color".  Often the year is wrong too.
