Hello from Calgary!

Hello!

I actually found this site after doing a search for dealership badges - and stumbled upon THIS great thread!

I signed up here in the hopes of gleaning some knowledge about the correct dealership badges.

An online acquaintance was born in Canada, but resides state-side, and I believe in 2004 he bought a 1970 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am which was originally sold at Park Pontiac in Winnipeg Manitoba.

I too have a 1970 Pontiac Firebird, but mine is a Formula 400;
My car was originally sold at Birchwood in Winnipeg.
I acquired my Firebird while living In Winnipeg (purchasd out of Riverton Manitoba in July 1995).

I was born in Winnipeg, and lived there for two periods of my life (during the second I got my Firebird), so when I decided to start looking for period dealership badges, I reached out to the Winnipeg Pontiac club, and someone in that club has replied to me with a Park Pontiac badge.

I was wondering if the following badges might be deemed period correct for 1970 model year cars from those two dealerships:
Park Pontiac:
/download.spark?ID=2028119&aBID=118110

Birchwood:
/download.spark?ID=1612550&aBID=118110

I actually this past week reached out to the manager of (now) Birchwood GM, and he said he would look into it - apparently there is still a member of staff working there, who was there in 1966!!

I sincerely appreciate any assistance which members of this site may be able to offer - even if this isn't really about any Canadian built Pontiac ;)

Welcome aboard. I'm not biased on the origins of a Pontiac as I have both Canadian and American. Some of the other members don't even have a GM.

With regards to the dealer emblems there are a few W'pegers on here that will shed some light on your request.

Last, a couple pics of the 'bird would be cool.

 I'm happy to oblige!

These are two I have on my computer the day after it was purchased in 1995.

In 2004, I was in an accident with my Firebird, so I dealt with insurance, and put it back to driveable condition;
It had a definate 'frankenstein' vibe, but it was driveable.
I shortly there after took it off the road.
I found evidence that it had full quarters changed probably around the time the paint colour was changed to yellow, but that nasty Manitoba salt damage was apparently never really properly fixed...

Some of it in 'frankenstein' mode, some of the car roughly how it sits right now... and one with my boy at the wheel ;)

I only have one crappy polaroid snapshot of my Formula before it was purchased;
The guy selling my car had a 1974 Formula 455 that he was selling at the same time - that was the car that we actually went to look at, but when we got there, the 1970 was the one I wanted much more...
My dad & step-mom were gifting me with a car as a High School graduation gift (best gift ever), and when I actually saw the ad for my car, I passed it because it said something to the effect of "will trade for ATV", so I blew it off as crap...
The bigger guy in the pictures is my dad, the smaller guy is the seller.
My dad haggled the seller down on his asking price, had the seller swap the better wheels and tires onto the '70, and swap the chrome air cleaner and valve covers onto the '70.

I have really grown to enjoy the chase for correct parts for such an oddball (for these days) configuration!

This past year I even acquired a 100% correct NOS black three speed shifter ball for my car (not pictured, but same style as black ball on left side of attached picture);
Years prior to that I found a gently used early 1970-Firebird, deluxe interior three speed shifter handle (the one with the red crest; top right), and later an NOS 1971-1974 Pontiac three speed shifter handle (the one with the shift pattern; bottom right).
About two years ago I finally sourced a correct 1970/1971 Firebird Hurst shifter for a Muncie three speed car... thanks entirely to a local!

hmm... apparently this site likes to rotate pictures so that they are attached longitudinally.

Sorry.

Welcome Jonny. Can't help you with your question - but I know your name through a few other sites (like PY Forums where I am Chief Wanabee). So is the Bird currently on the rotisserie?

 yup.

i figured it was a good way to really start taking it apart;

KMS has them on "sale" now and then for a pretty god price, so I bit the bullet.

Thanks Todd!

- and thanks for permitting me to be here ;)

I really hope to figure this dealer badge stuff out... I actually contacted the manager of Birchwood, and he told me that he would look into it!!

Thanks again!

@ Captiain Beaumont;
Are you a member of the (Edmonton) Iron Indians club?

As I recall, I attended some Iron Indians club meetings before there was an Edmonton branch - which I have come to understand now dwarfs the Calgary chapter!
I haven't been in a car club for some time, but am thinking of joining the (Calgary) Iron Indians - and am really looking forward to the annual S&S they should be putting on this coming sunday!

Welcome from Calgary!!

The Birchwood Badge is correct! My father had a 2+2 he purchased from there in 1970 and that was mounted on the trunk lip! The 2+2 dissapeared into Edmonton 15 years ago, and I have not been able to find it since!!

I currently have a 67 SD that was also purchased from Birchwood, would love to find the origonal bill of sale!

Cheers!

Cool!

Thanks for the confirmation on that design badge being correct for me (err, my car)

I have no idea what the backstory is to the gentleman who shared those pictures in the dealership thread, but it looked to me as though Birchwood helped him out;
I say this because around the time I signed up here I actually reached out to the manager of Birchwood (the GM franchise, because they have several franchises now);
He said he would get back to me, and get this - they have an employee still working there, who has been there since 1966!?!!

That's pretty cool!

I am wondering if by chance Birchwood has paperwork going that far back... probably an absolute long shot, but depending on what the manager gets back to me with, I can give you a heads up if the prospects are good.
