Got a 2002 Malibu that needs emission testing by the end of the month. Plugged in an OBD tester a couple of weeks ago but it wasn't ready. Plugged it in again today and its still not ready. So I went for a drive. Put on 130KM, mostly highway but did some stop and go. Up and down some hills. Stopped, took a break, then repeated. Still not ready. 

Car mostly sits or my parents do short errands with it. Put approx 600 km on it in the past 3 years. Prior to that the drive it a lot. To the amount of 220,000km. 

 

Any ideas ?

You could try disconnecting the battery for a few hours and take it for another long drive. What a PITA! I don't miss that!!

That's how this process started. Got the check engine light about two months ago. Cleared it. Then got the notice that we need to get it tested.

as well as putting on km there now is a 48 hour time after clearing codes or disconnecting battery to be ready
