That's flippin' beautiful!!

I have had a question in my mind about '59 Olds for some time now...

Is your car original paint, or at least originally a 2-tone car?  The reason I ask is that in all the pics I've seen, and in the brochures, there seems to be no divider for the 2-tone paint - almost like they just masked them off at the factory and painted them like that.

Now GM had always been very picky about putting chrome trim at the divide between the 2 colours on 2-tone cars.

For example, '55 Chevys with the 2-tone treatment had that little chrome piece at the bottom rear to finish off the divide:

'59 Chevys with 2-tone had the piece of chrome added to the front edge of the 'wing' to close up the 2-tone area:

So it looks to me that the '59 Olds with 2-tone treatment didn't have chrome trim dividing the 2-tone areas - is that true?  If so, I would consider it to be very un-GM-like... wink

Sorry for the silly question, but this type of minutia always seems to haunt me... biggrin

Thanks for the good words!

As a matter of fact, your question about the two-toning on 59 Olds has been a subject of questions for me too, ever since I saw one for the first time. I am also obsessed with the minute details and especially the design of these cars.

To answer your question, my car has the original, untouched, 1959 factory paint. Indeed, the two toning was done with a molding to divide the two colours, which was pretty unique at the time. I got the dealer trim and colour choice book with this car and it clearly shows this was really the way they did them at the factory.

You obviously have the golden touch for finding these amazing 1959 survivors. Whats next, a 59 Chev Impala, 59 Buick Invicta maybe. Or how about a Caddy Eldorado. Good luck with that sweet 59 Olds time machine.
