Sooooo...I'll try to make this a short story. My wifes 99 Silverado has had an oil leak for the past couple of months, but I had an engine job in my shop. Fast forward to today...engine job is out of my shop and she took her truck out to meet her dad for breakfast this morning. On the way she noticed the low coolant light come on and when she got to the parking lot ,coolant was all over the ground. Brought the truck home(after topping it up) and I went out to take a look. Ran the truck for 15 min and nothing on the ground? Took her truck to pick up some parts and blew a front brake line!! Drove home by shifting down, E brake and still had rears. Pulled it into the shop and coolant was pouring out of water pump!!! So she leaks oil, coolant and brake fluid...2 of the 3 in one day!!!!! Not only that,I had rotated tires a month ago and noticed today the sway bar link missing! Told her it was driver abuse!wink Not like I don't maintain my vehicles..what are the odds.no  Anyone beat that???

No more to say, you win. I've got one day I remember about 6-7 years ago though. Took the Beaumont to a North West American Chevelle show just out of Portland. One of the rare ones when my wife actually came with me. Drove 7 hours to start down 97 to Yakima, Washington, car ran like a dream. Stayed overnight and headed out in the morning for an easy 5 hour drive to the show. Get an hour out of town cruising along, top down, tunes cranked, all of sudden I hear this rattling from the engine so I quickly pull over and the oil light comes on. Open the hood and there is oil absolutely everywhere on the passenger side on my little six lunger and just running down the firewall. State trooper stops by in 5 minutes and calls me a deck truck to go back to Yakima. Phoned a good buddy of mine and asked him if there was any chance the engine would be okay plus where on earth could that oil be coming from. He said either a double gasket on your oil filter or the fuel pump. Was a Saturday and the GM garage was only open for oil changes. Kids were great with the old car coming in there so I filled it up with oil and fired it up. Rattled for a little while and then smoothed right out. They then let me put some dye in the oil and put it up on their hoist. Observed it and there was only a drop or two that showed up below the fuel pump so gladly paid them off and headed to Napa for a fuel pump. Got one and swapped it out in the corner of their parking lot. It gave me a little trouble as the spring wanted to pop off while I was installing it. It took another try but got her snugged up and it's running fine. Then ask the wife, do we continue or head back towards home. It was supper time by now and the show was the next morning. She says lets go for it so we ate and headed south. Deck truck bill was $350 but we are rolling again. Knew it would be midnight or so until we would reach Portland but its a gorgeous July night. So sailing along about 15 minutes past were I had blown out my oil and I'm approaching a hill and the car starts to miss and quickly dies. First thought was, what if that same state trooper comes by and sees me here stalled again 8 hours later. I knew it was the fuel pump so I coasted a little back down the hill where the road widened and pulled over. Wife held the light and handed me my wrenches and in less than 10 minutes we had it running again. So again I ask North or South, she says go for it. So I agreed and away we went. First I stopped every 10 minutes to check if any oil was puking out and after a couple checks I went back to normal driving. Got to Portland around midnight, found a new room because I had canceled mine from the deck truck. Went and had a great time at the show the next day, won a small 50-50 for $150 which helped my towing bill. Came back up the Oregon coast and all the way home with no issues. On the Monday I stopped at another Napa and swapped out the new defective fuel pump and kept it as a back up. Very memorable and crazy trip as I've never run into anyone having a similar oil experience like mine. Somehow it must have just built up crazy pressure to blast all that oil out. Cool thing was it was my birthday when we got home and my wife wrote in the card thanking me for the adventure and if she had the chance she would do it all over again. Don't know why but she has put up with me for 36 years this week. I got more than lucky in that department. Sorry about the length of this but it was all of these goofy details that made it the memory it is for me. Thought of it right away when there were issues with the road trip for the 59 to Alberta.  Jim you too obviously triggered this memory.  Road trips make some of the best conversations!  Short one to Spokane in two weeks coming up.

It wasn't me but a friend came from Ottawa with his 84 Chev van and a trailer and bought a nice 4 door 62 Chev body off me. He's heading back to Ottawa, gets 45 minutes away and his automatic transmission spews its guts going up a hill. He called me, I called a few people for a recommendation on a tranny place near Halifax, none were recommended. I called Rick Rood in Waterville, he said he could look at it, but they'd have to pull it. It was a 700R and both Rick and my buddy were pretty sure what was wrong. I called Atlantic Tiltload, I knew the owner, the van and trailer laned back in my yard. The tranny got pulled and at 930 that night, Rick had the tranny opened up at his shop. He had to order parts so it took 2 days to fix. They got back on the road and never missed a beat back to Ottawa. The van he bought new for work, it had 2-300,000 on it, was on it's 3rd tranny.
Knock on wood, I've run out of gas a few times, lost antifreeze due to a loose hose, and had flats, but never had a serious breakdown, I've probably driven 1.5-2.0 million km's. Had a slapping noise last month driving the 63, it was a fan belt coming apart and slapping the hood. Drove it home that way.

We burnt a wheel bearing in Trois-Rivières QC. on St. Jean Baptiste weekend. No mechanics to be found, everything closed, so we was stranded for 3 days.

When we finally got a mechanic(s), it took 3 of them to decipher what I was saying in English, because Trois-Rivières is very French. They finally got the message that we wanted to quickly continue our journey when we moved our luggage to behind their service counter.biggrin

By-the-way, Trois-Rivières is a beautiful place. We want to visit under better circumstances some day.

About 25 years ago I drove my wife's 1991 Chevy Sprint (3 cyl auto....) to Toronto. Got just outside of the city when the throttle cable broke. I was on an overpass and managed to coast to the other side. There was very little room to park. Luckily it broke right at the throttle body and there was enough cable to do a repair. Rest of the trip was uneventful. Too this day I can't remember why I was that stupid to take that underpowered car on the 401 to Toronto!

Was travelling to Detroit for Woodward. Had a brake caliper bolt snap off and wedge the caliper in the rim locking the wheel. Almost clipped twice by traffic on side of road. Tow truck came 1 hour later and got fixed up.Eventually got to Woodward. My head exploded and ended up in the hotel room within 5 min of being on the cruise. Spent entire night in bed puking. Wife/son missed show as well.

wife calls me from garage and says there is smoke coming from front wheel could I come quick as she has things to do. Drive over with my 85 Olds Delta to exchange cars . Sent her on her way and limbed the 84 LSC home with a seized caliper. 3 hours latter she calls me from the same garage and says this car is doing the same thing. Our upper escarpment is 300 ft high and its a steep twisting road down, she never gears down just rides the brakes. what the odds of seizing the same left front calipers on the same day in the same spot.

Ya, I should have learnt French. I was born in Montreal, in the English section and left at the age of 6. Both my parents and brothers were born in Montreal also. Love Quebec.
