I have a 348 very good condition I have the complete set up 4 barrel dome and the tripower dome less carburetors starter exhaust manifolds alternator bracket and the flywheel and 4 speed transmission if you are interested please call 9028300560 serious buyers only please
not to burst anyones bubble, but the four barrel intake is from a truck, mount for airpump. and if the block is truck too there aint no way you will make any power or compression unlike 409 truck motors, check the numbers know what you buying.
You need all the numbers off the block, heads, and intakes to make a decision on value. With the right heads and intake plus cam and your wallet, you can make 350-450 hp from a 348 truck block.

Check the VIN. Only other way to tell for sure is to pull the heads and check the cylinders. Truck blocks have a relief cut in the top of the cylinder to reduce compression. Could still be made into a decent street motor if it is a truck block, but nothing overly exciting.
All 348's had a notch in the top of the cylinder but the early truck blocks actually had TWO notches per cylinder.
Somewhere around 1960 or 1961 the truck 348's started to come with the single notch,,, the same as the passenger car 348's.
The passenger car 409's had no notch at all but all of the 409 truck blocks had a single notch.
The title says it's a 1958 engine, if it's a 1958 truck engine, it would be the least desirable 348. It would have two notches, so it's hard to make very much compression.
58 engines also had a rope style rear main seal,,, they tend to leak a little. The 58 engine blocks also didn't have the spark plug cooling holes that 59 and later blocks had, so if you wanted to use newer heads, you have to modify them.
I think a 1958 truck engine would be best suited for a really mild cruiser with about 250hp but Don is right you can get a lot of power out of a single notch 348.
I had one that made 650hp and ran 10.40's in my 55 Chevy. It was stroked out to 437ci and it had aftermarket aluminum heads etc. Actually, now that I think about it, I think the only factory GM part on that engine was the block.
Wow. Good to know. I'm definitely not going to argue with Jim since I've never had to deal with a 348-409 power plant! I think he has a little (actually A-LOT) more knowledge than I do. I do know where there is a complete 348 tri power motor sitting under a guys bed in pieces....smeared in Vaseline...yes, I said vaseline. Came out of a '58 Impala SS Convertible that his brother had since new and rolled it when it was a couple months old. Gotta grab that one!!!

He must be a single guy!
