Was there for a week - Just got home yesterday( thursday)- not the greatest time to visit but things did get better as our visit progressed
In terms of smoke it started out pretty bad on the first Thursday we were there.
The first picture is from the first Thursday we were there - if one looks closely you can see a faint outline of the mountains
The second picture is a couple of days later and shows what was hidden by the smoke - both pictures were taken from our hotel - the view is looking north over the Trans Canada
I don't have a good sense of smell so i didn't find it bothered me that much - my wife found it bothered her - we saw people wearing face masks
On the Saturday and Sunday it rained a bit and that seemed to clear up the smoke and the smell a bit - there were short spells of blue sky and sun on both days in the late afternoon
By monday it was all blue sky and beautiful both in terms of the weather and the scenery for the rest of our stay
Glad to hear your trip turned out good in the end,
The smoke had been really bad in the interior of BC most of Aug I live in Chase, BC its not as bad as Kamloops but we got our fair share of the nasty smoke here too. But being on the Shuswap lake system helped us out a little always a little breeze here going down the valley most days hopefully Sept will be better
