Fake cars:

The late star's 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, which is a replica of car he drove in Smokey and the Bandit, and a copy of the Trans Am used in Hooper are expected to be the hottest items up for grabs on 29 September (18) at the Mandalay Bay resort.

There will also be a recreation of the 1987 Chevrolet R30 pick-up that featured in Burt's film Cannonball Run.

Loni should get some $$$ after receiving his beatings.

Reportedly Pontiac gave him a new Trans Am every year after Smokey and the Bandit released.

I was working at a Pontiac dealership at the time the above brochure came out. A customer of our's ordered the exact Turbo Formula pictured. Beautiful car, but sadly, the 305 Chevy powered Firebird we ran against it was faster. The turbo idea was cool though.

I've heard lots of first hand accounts of lackluster performance from the 301T;
Unfortunately I've also come to understand that the 301T was notorious for being built and shipped out in a state of horrendous tune - and that if a a knowledgable person would set up the 301T, it would run SIGNIFICANTLY better...
the 305 of the time was rated at something like 145hp - while the 301T was rated at (I believe) 210hp... that horsepower difference wasn't a myth!

A friend of mine had one of those bought new and it burned the valves on the right side head [ #4 or second from front] due to heat and back pressure from the turbo - twice in less than 4 years. I know since I got to change out the head for repairs. Performance wise it was a pig . Can't remember any more but I think total max boost was around 8 or 10 psi.

Was no fun to work on since you needed both imperial and metric tools. Seem to recall all bolts on the engine were imperial and anything part of the car was metric. Nice looking car though, T top and red on red, a chick magnet at the time. He traded it for a 1985 Chebby 305 pickup.

Luckily the next time they put a turbo in a Firebird it was based on the turbo Buick V6 setup. That was a quick car.

The V6 Buick turbo vs. the 301 turbo is kind of like Schwarzenegger and Devito!
