April 1st is also 6 months warning of termination. Probably written into a contract somewhere.

Yes that's a good point, seems likely that some unionized civil servants will be laid off and notice to the union is an important component of any staffing change not to mention the retailers who supply the service.

Old GMC made it through this morning, I've been driving it for a couple of weeks since I replaced cats but my scanner kept showing not ready until yesterday when only the EVA was not ready. I understand that you can run the test with 2 not readys but not three so I took it in.  I guess this will be the last time it gets an e-test in Ontario.

I think this is an issue for many cars.

When I was working (retired now) we had problems with uplander vans with the check engine light being on and the problem was the fuel tank pressure sensor. Our fleet had annual oil spraying for rust prevention and whatever was in the spray ruined the sensors.

It was also Krown that we used. The first time I called the dealership for a new sensor, the first thing he asked was if we oil spray our fleet. That seemed to mean it was a common problem.

I've been running on a conditional pass for the past two years, repairing the truck resulted in a marked improvement in performance and especially off idle acceleration plus smoother engine response. It takes a lot of getting used to not driving around with that orange light glowing. The other thing we don't know is what will replace the drive clean program, I've heard the Check Engine light and emission systems will become part of the vehicle inspection report for resale and ownership transfer.

Drive clean has become irrelevant due to computer controls and limp modes programmed into the software on new vehicles. Roadside tests have proven to be more effective at catching problem vehicles. It is still against the law to tamper with or remove emissions equipment in Ontario, no matter what year the vehicle is. A man near me got a fine and a repair order because the 1977 pickup he was driving had no catalytic converter and disconnected egr and charcoal canister. There is also a law in place that vehicles must have all the emission equipment in place and working. This also applies to the engine. If you install a newer engine in your street rod the emissions equipment also needs to be installed that came on the engine originally.

This law is very punitive, imagine having a 1968 or whatever year car and the AIR tubes have rusted off and the AIR muffler is shot, the pump is seized and you took off the belt. . Where and how do you find these parts. If you can they are priced for the concourse numbers matching crowd. Law makers don't live in reality, there should be a useage metric applied to these old or antique cars to be fair.

Egg-zactly! Dad had a '74 Chevy that sounded like it had a valve tick. All it was were rusted out a.i.r tubes, so the stuff was removed around 1979.

In California, home of the most stringent emission controls in the world, they have a referee for any disputes regarding emissions equipment. Ontario does not, nor do the lawmakers have a clue except for blindly following what is on paper. The fact is there are cases of exclusively Canadian vehicles, yes, even 1974 models, that did not come with a.i.r. pumps (L48 Chevelles, LT4 wagons), yet that info can't be found in any manuals that I have ever found. Also there were cases on the 1975 models when catalytic converters were thought to have been "mandatory" when in actual fact they could be legally deleted via an RPO. This was at a time when unleaded gas was not always available and fleets could delete them, instead reverting to equivalent 1974 equipment. Who do you appeal your unfair fine to? Tell it to the judge, but the burden of proof is on the defendant. Unfricking real!

We are controlled to death I tell you.

It is worth remembering that there was a time when the only vehicles on the road had no emission controls. If the hype were true, none of us should be alive right now. Clean air is good, but so is fairness and levity.
