Yikes. It seems showing off when leaving a car show usually has dire consequences.

There were a number of auto show events here in Ontario that were shut down because of these pea brain morons. One major annual event in Waterdown, Ontario was shut down for this very reason. That event had been going on since the early seventies and it was shut down because the local folks were worried someone was going to get killed from these stupid burn outs.

Yes, from my car club days, the easiest way to lose a venue for next year's show is to have a bunch of clowns doing smoky burnouts after the show.  Extra points for barely missing pedestrians as you blow by them.

Let's be honest, we've all done burnouts or at least those of us with enough power have so I'm not going to get sanctimonious about this. It all comes down to Judgement, maturity with skill. This guy had none of those.

There was a cruise night in Ontario where there was unmarked police cars lurking in the shadows. They nailed quite a few guys leaving and those cars got confiscated and the owners charged with stunt driving. One owner got into a heated argument with the cops as his car sat quite low and would have been damaged being placed on the tilt n load.

Not being sanctimonious at all, Ray.  It comes down to responsibility, public perception, and consideration for those who did all the work to create this event for you.

You can justify it all day long, but if you do burnouts as you leave the show you are not doing the organizers any favours.  Even as skilled and careful as you are, the public perceives it as dangerous driving.  That's where the police complaints come from, and why unmarked cars are staking out cruise nights.  Then the owners of the business whose parking lot you borrowed gets complaints as well, which can reflect back to their insurance providers but probably doesn't have to go that far as they are concerned about public perception and potential liability.  Not to mention all the black marks on the pavement leaving their business.

In our case, we got the town to agree to let us use a public park and baseball diamond for our car show.  It was a beautiful setting and everybody enjoyed it.  4 or 5 guys decided to impress everybody when leaving the show and that was it - never again at that location.

Then there's the 1-in-100 person who takes out somebody's car or god forbid hits a pedestrian.  As an organizer you have no control over this other than to ask people to take it easy, which they ignore anyway, after all what are you going to do to them?  But at the end of the day the complaints are directed your way.  I'm glad I'm out of that aspect of the hobby.

There I go being sanctimonious again... disbelief

Skill or no skill, no one should be doing burn outs on a public road where there are people going about their business. A controlled area for doing this sort of activity is the only place to do this. So that any number of bad things never happen to people or property.

As I said, Judgement, maturity and skill. Judgement being No.1

Since I was a kid, I have done my stuff like that out on a highway with nobody around. It wasn't even so much being smart when I was young, I was always too scared of being caught, having a huge fine and losing my car and my license.

You still see guys in their 50's or maybe even older doing dumb stuff when they leave a car show. Amazing.

I got lucky. I got pinched. Little did the cop know my mom just died that day. I was in the middle of no where, not a farm house or person for miles. Out of a ditch or hiding behind a tree he came out of no where and nailed me. I never said 1 word to him. He read me the riot act. said he had someone he was taking to jail and had he not had the Tahoe full of prisoners he said it would be me who was going to jail and loose my ride. Last thing he said to me was "your too old for this sh*t" and got in his SUV and drove away. I did not say a single word. I came home and my wife said I looked like a I seen a ghost.

Oh and it wasn't even worth mentioning it was a burnout. It was a sad one...

I literally was in the middle of no where. hmm Guess mom was watching out for me.
