This will be a sad sight for Corvair lovers

This car has been sitting in the same spot outside for at least the last 10 years

I know a person who has approached the owner and has gotten the typical " it not for sale - i am planning to fix it up " answer

I bike by it at least once every year and this year i see it is starting to rust on the back quarters

Still looks decent enough from above.  Neat car with the turbo and 4-speed.  Definitely worth fixing.

As much as it irks me to see a nice car abandoned like this, I have to remind myself that it's another person's property and up to them what they want to do with it.  Hopefully the owner fixes it someday, but if he doesn't it's his choice.

An extreme case of this obsession in the hobby is this article I saw linked on another board.  The guy actually took the van in question without permission from the owners, and paid for a restoration from a GoFundMe campaign - doesn't look like it will end well for him.

https://www.streetmusclemag.com/features/car-features/wild-cherry-van-rescued-restored-and-ridiculed-for-being-stolen/

At the end of the day, the van belonged to the owners, for whom it had great sentimental value.  They too contended that they would fix it up someday, and when it comes down to it, who are we to judge whether they would or not?  Regardless, it's their property and their decision.

Read about the van as well. It was only after he restored it did they make a fuss.
Very tardy in letting things sit for so long. At least in my opinion.

That story reminds me of the 1967 Trimuph GT6 we "found" in a parking lot north of the Danforth back around 1974. It sat for years until finally we jump started it and gave it a go, it started and a buddy drove it to his home. We went to school in that car from grade 11 to 13. It had no battery so we always would jump start it from some teachers car everyday, which ever hood we could get open. In the morning we would all push it to start. We all learned to drive stick on that car, no plates and all. Never got caught and it never broke.

GT6's are neat cars. Even better if you swap a Rover/Buick 215 C.I V8!

Yeah, lots of murky information with that one.

To be honest, I don't know why he wouldn't have just bought a solid van in California and made a clone.  Would have been easier, cheaper... and legal.

I don't think one of those would be cool even if it had a 427 4 speed!

I know you do, and I know a few people who also do.

I just can't get excited about a car that isn't a V8 rear wheel drive and didn't need a boat to bring it here (says the guy with the G8......) But the G8 is an exception, Pontiac did it and in my eyes they didn't do a lot of wrong over the years.

Back to Corvairs, there's a member here who lives close to me who'd like to sell a couple of these. I'm surprised he hasn't chimed in here yet.

The GT6 was pretty darn cool and it wasn't a slouch, I'd ram it through the gears without using the clutch. Of course the one we found was white not British Racing Green. Got me thinking and reminiscing, I think I'll go GT6 surfing and see what these little puppies are worth. confuse
