I dont think Carl will survive- being waited on hand and foot. Food and parts just show up at the door, wont be like that for much longer.

A lady from church just showed up an hour ago with supper for us, pulled pork, fresh buns, soup and chocolate cake for dessert. This truly is unbelievable. This community has always been my home and I really know why I love it so much.

Even the sight of that many 6 cylinders at once can't ruin this day!

Carl, i can not help but envy that nice town you live in. Most of us living in bigger area's are not as lucky................ we have to fend for our selves. Carl, while you are in the corner of the room with your head down in shame, remember this chant or mantra................ six in a row makes it go, six in a row makes it go, six in a row makes it go, six in a row makes it go, six in a row makes it go. Carl, now repeat that thirty or forty times and i promise you will feel much better for it. biggrin

How about "Six in a row, gotta go, it's not to late to put in an 8"? Can I just chant that?

Carl, i have to admit that it is kind of catchy but it just will not work here. You see this is a six banger love in here and bent eights are verboten. The eights are late therapy sessions are in another room and i hear there is new progress in treatment for that infection. biggrin

I worked in Hamilton for the movers as a summer job decades ago when they were still running International "Fleetstar A" tractors & Ford Louisvilles with gas engines. The Internationals mostly were running great big inline gas sixes, RD450 (Red Diamond), plus some had big 478 gas V8s. The sixes were better. I visited Westdale Garage that did all the mechanical stuff for Fidelity Movers and saw a fresh RD450 gas engine, all painted up and getting ready to drop into my foreman's truck. It's too bad I didn't get a picture of it as it was impressive. I remember being assigned to the driver of the rebuilt Fleetstar for the next few weeks, going all over Southern Ontario in that thing. Usually with the non-turbo engines you would have to drop them down a couple of gears on a grade, but that straight six pulled harder than the also great Ford Super Duty 477 V8s that powered their Louisville trucks. This was around 1981. After that the new trucks were all turbo-diesels powered by Caterpillar 3406s. Now those things could pull (and they too were straight sixes).

Give up George, V8's are like the virus, it's just a matter of time before we take over! You're going to have to put all your (6 cylinder) wagons in a circle to defend!

Speaking of "Chief of the Sixes" George, you must own the GM/Pontiac copper coin with that on it?

Darryl, interesting you mentioned that because yes i do have a copper double medallion of the Pontiac Chief of the sixes. It is from around 1927-1928 and it was our past member Carl that gave it to me. I mean the other Carl that we never see here on C.P. any more. Out of no where in the mail i got this medallion from Carl and it was a complete surprise. I was not advertising for in any way and it shows up at my door. I keep that special medallion in my 57 Poncho at all times. If Carl is still out there, i would like to thank him again for his grand gesture. Now that is what C.P. is all about. smile

My trusty 235 in line six banger in my 1956 Chev 210 sedan. Sweet running engine that never let me down ever. Many miles logged from 1981 to 1984. I miss that old girl. smile

The picture is not great but here is a 72 Chevelle 250 cid 6 cyl I got over the winter. It cost me a used 68 Chevy hood and $50.00.

I also have the 261 that was in my 62 Parisienne before I swapped in a 283. It has a stuck valve but it isn't leaving my garage. I know these engines had a reputation for poor oiling given the lack of an oil filter provision in the design (mine has the external mount) but this engine had so much power and torque. One story: I was cruising at 70 MPH on the four lane highway south to the City one summer not long after I got the car. A BMW pulled up alongside of me clearly expecting to pass me. I gave the old Pontiac more gas through the cast iron 2 speed and was quickly up to 90 mph and he was still not pulling ahead. Once I got there I backed off and let him go because after all it was above the speed limit, the car had drum brakes and a single master cylinder, and other than checking the brakes and replacing lower ball joints I had not yet made any upgrades to the undercarriage so I decided to be safe rather than sorry.

I'll never forget how much pull that engine had in a big 4000 pound car. I hope to rebuild it some day and find a car to put it in (not likely in reality but you never know). It's more likely that I'll find a home first for the 250 in a Nova, Acadian or Ventura. But that won't be any time soon either.
