Looking for a wheelchair van to purchase (cheap) or to rent (reasonable) for the 2018 Christmas holidays (30 days)
Permalink Closed

We have a disabled relative and his support worker coming to Calgary for a first visit from the Maritimes for

the Christmas holidays and we would love to take them on a tour of the mountains and surrounding area.

Renting a wheelchair van costs in the neighbourhood of $130. a day,and for 30 or so days would end up being

quite costly. We're hoping maybe someone has a wheelchair access van (rear preferred) that we may rent

at a more reasonable cost or isn't being used during the holidays, or even to purchase if the price is affordable.

Any contacts or leads would be greatly appreciated.

bump. I contacted a friend in Calgary who picks up cars and equipment for the auction sales. oldest is likely a 2014 gone through the auction. PM me if this is a possibility.

Thanks Cliff.....we bought one just yesterday.....really cheap by what's out there.

1995 Dodge Caravan, mechanically in great shape (140,000 miles) , new tires, but like most of

the older wheelchair vans, the issue is rust on the 10 inch dropped floor area. Passed safety easily, but our

mechanic says it will only be good for a couple of more winters because of the rust and then it's probably off to the scrap yard.

Built in New Mexico, and doesn't have any rust on the exterior.....also unlike most handicap vans, where the

wheelchair is located in the middle or rear of the van, this one had the wheelchair placed in the passenger

side up front. This allows the individual to see the road and be next to the driver....I like that.

We'll use it for the Christmas holiday visit and then probably sell it afterwards.

Thanks again Cliff for your concern I really appreciate it.

Been living in Calgary for almost 30 years, the tour is the usual setup for those who have never been here.

The mountains have been over inflated for the season with the snow caps, instead of the rock caps (that's summer season inflation)

temperature will be reduced to crispiness level, snow machines will be going full blast through Christmas. The sun will shine extra bright

and the skies will be splattered with the special Christmas blue.....Banff,Edmonton,Drumheller,Canmore and more places to see and visit right here in Calgary.

Yup we're ready to dazzle our eastern visitors with the "tourist special"  tour through out the province. biggrin
