A Canadian musician from Halifax named Dave Carroll recently had difficulty with United Airlines.
Dave spent over 9 months trying to get United to pay for damages caused by baggage handlers to his custom Taylor guitar.
During his final exchange with the United Customer Relations Manager, he stated that he was left with no choice other than to create a music video for YouTube exposing their lack of cooperation.
The Manager responded: "Good luck with that one, pal."
So he posted a retaliatory video on YouTube. The video has since received over 6 million hits.
United Airlines contacted the musician and attempted settlement in exchange for pulling the video. Naturally his response was:
"Good luck with that one pal "
Taylor Guitars sent the musician 2 new custom guitars in appreciation for the product recognition from the video that has led to a sharp increase in sales.
The Carroll brothers hail from Timmins, ON and play under the name " Sons of Maxwell ". They are however mostly thought of as east coasters.
This guitar incident happened a few years ago.
Good on them for using the power of the internet to embarass a major uncaring airline. Payback is sweet.
I've seen the Sons of Maxwell perform many times and have talked to both Don and Dave in the past. Nicest guys you will ever meet, and very talented as well (obviously).
I recall Dave saying they were sitting on their plane and could see the ground crew literally throwing their instruments around as they were being loaded onto the plane. The frustration of being passed along from person to person from United without any success frustrated him so much he was motivated to write the song and post it online. Ironically, this incident got him more attention than he had ever received through his musical career. It was nice that they had the last laugh, and that United was forced to review their customer service and (hopefully) make improvements.
