SAE 30 is definitely not right.  Try another Toro dealer perhaps?   Tranny fluid or hydraulic fluid?  From my ag background, I would check out the local Case IH or JD ag dealer and ask about their hydraulic fluid, see if they have some red hydraulic fluid.  They will have a multitude of hydraulic fluids as well as hydraulic fluids for smaller lawn and garden tractors / mowers etc.

That's pretty bad of the Toro dealer to suggest SAE 30 tho.  confuse

My link didn't work for some reason but I went here and clicked on "operators manual".

Just to make things more confusing, when I was working, I serviced industrial grass cutting equipment. We had a Jacobsen industrial mower and it had red oil in the hydraulic system. It didnt smell like transmission fluid or hydraulic oil, so I called the manufacturer and the original fill was sae 10 oil dyed red! Sometimes I dont know what these people are thinking.
