my toro has a hydraulic deck lift cylinder that I just had rebuilt and I want to top up the tank. Fluid is red but no where in the manual or google search can I find the right tranny fluid to use. I phoned the dealer and they said straight sae 30 motor oil. that's not right. HELP please
SAE 30 is definitely not right. Try another Toro dealer perhaps? Tranny fluid or hydraulic fluid? From my ag background, I would check out the local Case IH or JD ag dealer and ask about their hydraulic fluid, see if they have some red hydraulic fluid. They will have a multitude of hydraulic fluids as well as hydraulic fluids for smaller lawn and garden tractors / mowers etc.
That's pretty bad of the Toro dealer to suggest SAE 30 tho.
Just to make things more confusing, when I was working, I serviced industrial grass cutting equipment. We had a Jacobsen industrial mower and it had red oil in the hydraulic system. It didnt smell like transmission fluid or hydraulic oil, so I called the manufacturer and the original fill was sae 10 oil dyed red! Sometimes I dont know what these people are thinking.
