I was 7, mad about cars, so I had most every one of those back in 68. I think I still have one.

Cool! I wonder if the cars will have the same "torsion bar suspension" as the originals?

I have mine tucked away in that tire carrying case that was offered. It was almost impossible to get all 16 in Canada back in the day, I was 10 on launch. I never did have three of them. As an original member of the Hot Wheels club I was able to receive the Boss Hoss, an open hood supercharged Mustang fastback finished in Chrome. Its in that tire carrier up in the attic.

Growing up in that era, between my friends & I we had most Hot Wheels of the 1968-72 era. We got older & Hot Wheels became a little more "out there" in design after '72. Hot Wheels popularity really affected the established Corgi & Dinky lines, many of which responded with new "Speedwheels" or "Whizzwheels"). I still have just a couple of old Hot Wheels but we used to have many. And Ray, I remember owning the Boss Hoss Silver Special that came with a certificate & a club magazine (featured both the Snake & Mongoose funnycars & a profile on designer Harry Bradley as well as showcasing other Hot Wheels & Monogram models). Got it Christmas 1970. I also had a few Heavy Haulers from 1970/71. My brother got us started in '68 with a '67 Eldorado, '68 Corvette, Deora  &  Fleetside pickups. Later show cars such as the Silhouette, Red Baron, Twinmill and many others, plus the MacLaren, GT40, Porsche 917 kept us in collector mode. I also had a couple of Hot Wheels Sizzlers, the rechargeable motored cars (had a '69 Trans Am & '70 Boss 302)

Over the last year or 2 I have been watching toys of that era on eBay. What a trip back in time to see the same toys that were gotten rid of almost 50 years ago.

It's funny to think this new set is aimed directly at guys from our era. Guys that had them as kids. Can't think any other group would be interested.

Whenever I get my "man cave" finished I want to start doing some restorations/customizing of older Matchbox/Hotwheels/Corgi's. You can now get many replacement parts for these cars from wheels to interiors to hoods etc. You can even get Spectraflame paint. I bought an old Matchbox case full of cars from the early 70's a year or so ago really cheap. It's full of great cars to restore (and some like these that don''t need restoring)

I still have my first car, The Deora, that I received in the hospital. Here are a few more that I found tucked away. (Along with a once popular record.)

You guys ever have Sizzlers?

I took one to a school assembly fully charged. Let it go towards the stage under the chairs... It careened it's way to the front where a pissed off teacher grabbed it, scowled back and I never saw it again.

Ah, yes... the Supercharger. Wasnt it the elastic band and handle operated mechanism that shot the cars out, and then required a manual reset if the lever? Ingenious and inexpensive!
Then there was the Juice Machine which fueled the electric Sizzlers. The good old days indeed!

I had Sizzlers. It had the "Gas pump" charger that took 4 D batteries. I had the "speedometer" which was cool . It was a device the car drove through that would hit a lever and a large speedometer on the top of it would show the speed. I also had a "brake" that had a simulated brake pedal with an air hose that went to a device on the track. When you pressed it with your foot and arm would extend onto the track slowing down the Sizzler. My charger ended up getting destroyed by leaking batteries. I had banked curved track and a hard plastic track with zig zag curves. Good times!

This is all bringing back such wonderful memories as a child. I was 10 years old in 1968 when i first started collecting Hot Wheels and got everything that was released that year. In 1969 for X-mas i got much of the track, loops and the powerhouse. I collected all the Hot Wheels releases from 1968 to 1971 when i started losing interest. All of my cars were either lost or destroyed by my younger siblings. I would have kept them but that was impossible with so many younger siblings that loved destroying all my stuff. To have all those original release cars from 1968 to 1971 today would mean i could retire in real comfort today. Cheers.

You really think so George? I'll be heading to the attic then, I did look up the Boss Hoss and it seems that $171 US is a good price for a really good condition car. I  mean at $200 CDN how many do you have to have? 100 would give you $20,000.

I've got over 800 including original release and new in boxes and packages never played with cars, not to mention sets and special pieces.I never thought of these as a retirement income let along a comfortable nest egg.

The one toy I wish I did still have is the Big Bruiser.

Ray, i was only kidding about retiring on my Hot Wheels and you hit another cord with the BIG BRUISER toy. I had one at around age 11 and i loved it until my younger  siblings found ways of destroying it as well. They would sit on it and ride it the way they would ride my bigger Tonka toys. My parents did not allow me to strangle any of my younger siblings because they were all girls (five) except for my one brother.

Ok, gotcha.

I actually got my originals out tonight and man they are played with, except that coveted Boss Hoss.

Oh the Big Bruiser, I may go find one now and gift myself !

Brings back memories for sure.  I still have a bunch of my old stuff packed away somewhere, but it's all well played with.  Some day I must dig them out and attempt some restorations.  I had no idea that you could get spare parts for them.

As for the Boss Hoss, I have one of those as well.  I never joined the Hot Wheels club, but it seems to me that I got it in a store that was selling leftover membership packs?  It was a long time ago so the memory is fuzzy, but that's what I recall.

I already sold all my vintage childhood Hotwheel stuff for a very good profit. I put that profit into my true passion ... vintage '60's Batman stuff.smilebatman.gif

As a kid i remember that only the rich kids had the cool slot car set ups. My next door neighbour had a sweet set up that i use to play on with him in the basement. Now i am talking a real "cool" slot car set up, not a lame ass one that will hold your attention for five minutes. I never had one but never the less i loved my Hot Wheels set up until i started getting bored with the whole thing around 1971.

I can say I never bought a single hot wheel car but I spent a ton on Aurora HO slot cars. I would take the bus into town to the hobby store on Saturdays. I bought magazines and ordered parts to make them go faster and slicks for traction. We put that white medical tape on the track to get cars to launch better. thinking back now the 67 cougar and galaxy were my favs.
