replace rear bumper 2017 sierra


Hello has anyone replaced the rear bumper on one of these trucks. 1/2 ton, is it really necessary to raise the box as some posts say?? thanks

Yes, and they rust out by looking at them.

I get my 2006's bumper Rust Checked along with the truck or it would be rusted out like so many I've seen.

There are some good heavy steel aftermarket bumpers available that fit well are are real bumpers. The stock chrome ones bend easily and also bend back easily, I guess thats a plus?

only remove the 4 rear box bolts, use a jack and lift the box an inch or 2, the bumper brkts will have enough clearance to slide out. gate doesn't need to come ff

Originally I had written that there was possibly a cheat to doing this but I edited it... since I hadn't done one, I didn't know. We, including myself a GM tech of 30 years now, are all about finding tricks to sidestep the procedure..

My bumpers the black painted one. im thinking to remove the spare and the trailer hitch for access then if its possible remove the top plastic pad to get at the bolts holding the brackets to the face bar. time isn't an issue im retired. my concern is the box shifting on the frame
