Know nothing about them, but want to get the internet in my shop which is about 200' from my house. Anyone use/have one or know what one will work? Wanting to listen to music or watch music video's via internet. Thx Jim
I'm definitely no expert but that's a very long distance for WiFi. Can you not run a cable underground from the router? I looked at booster options for a webcam at our club (a little under 200') but, in the end, used cable across the inner roof structure of the hangar that we're attached to:
If it's a clear path to the shop a range extender may work. We have one in our house as my wife's office is upstairs and on the opposite side of the house from where our router is. It was cheap- something like $33 on Amazon. It works well.
When your in the shop you should be working, not watching T.V.
Back in my day we had something called a radio to listen to music.
Oh yeah they still make them dum dum.

What about tin (beer) cans attached to a string?

Ive used an apple Wifi without the extender, it reaches the front of my building front the front of my house, Ive FaceTimed with it to show people parts. Thats about 125 ft, the range extender may make it the rest of the way?

Do you have power going to your shop from your house? I use a converter that goes throught the electical lines in my house to extend to rooms without a LAN connection and you can add a router with wifi too.
Tried to get WiFi out to my detached garage with a booster, not much luck, brought it back. Picked up a Netgear Powerline 1000 WiFi adapter, works great. Like previously said, it uses the electrical wiring from the house to the garage. One box in the house hooked up to the router and plugged into a nearby outlet. Another plugged into an outlet in the garage and hardwired with an Ethernet cable to a smart tv, and WiFi for the laptop.
Thanks for the reply's. Don't have a clean line of sight(too many trees). Sounds like the best option is the power line one...since I have underground cable running to the shop.
