I was brousing google images for the 62, and the fender to box clearance looks even tighter than the 65. As in none.

So the lower inside bolt might be super tough to access. All the others look accessible. You could always drill a small hole in the WW directly in front of the tough bolt, and plug and seal it later.

One bonus perhaps, is that the blower housing appears to separate from the box. And it appears that the box inside will separate from the core housing itself. Maybe the tough bolt could be drilled off from the inside when everything is apart and the core is out?

I think you just have to start in on it and see how far you can get.

Good luck and remember..."anything is better than removing the fender".

 edit;

I found this picture of a 62 impala with the box off, and it looks like if similar to the Pontiac, that bolt may be accessible after all using a long box wrench from underneath. The blue firewall is a 62 G/P.

Now a definite maybe!

What do you have to install for the ac box? There is a top left bolt or 2 in a Chevy that is real tough to get to with the inner fender and outer fender there and if you are putting anything back there, it may be worth it to remove the inner and outer fenders.

Jim hasn't ordered unit yet, he's "mocking up" compressor brkts. & pulleys right now, moving alt. from one side to the other!!! so far he's getting it to align all the belts with pulley's. Kit is going to have to be a universal one, as no custom kit available for US Poncho

When I took my 67 Impala in to have the A/C conversion done the first page said "remove the right front fender",

there was a chorus of that wont happen!

Next visit the fender was off!

Makes it easier to get to the bolts.

I used https://www.classicautoair.com/    Found them to be very helpful.

I recall years ago changing heater core and pulling the inner fender down and out of the way to reach the bolts for the heater box.

My experience

Thanks Cliff, won't be getting into this till early spring, when we bring car down from Lindsay to my shop, Jim's house garage a "little " small for getting doors open to do dash work. Inner fender removal sounds easier than fender removal!!!

The inner fender on the 62 Chev was removed easity, without removing the outer fender. My 63 Pontiac was a difficult job, I would remove the outer and inner on the 63 if I had it to do again. No idea how the 62 Pontiac setup compares with either.
The 63 Pontiac has a whole mess of extra shielding around the grill area that is a real PITA to get in and out with some pieces attaching to the inner fender. If the 62 Pontiac is similar to the 63 in that area, have fun.

Pics of the 62 Chev, if the 62 Pontiac is the same heater, the only hard bolts to get to are the upper one and outside one on the fan motor, you may be able to get those with the fender on. Try a mirror and or a cel camera to see this area.

Apparently from what Jim says the blower motor is down in behind the inner fender, not mounted to heater box on G/P, & has a short square flex hose, sent picture but can't really see much.
