Beautiful! Of course you'd want to tow it with a 59 Cadillac Biarritz convertible (in black or red) to really make a statement

Boy, time to buy gallons of aluminum polish, buffing machines, and plenty of "soft cloths".

Stunning, but seriously in 1951 what would you tow that with?

How about an early 50's Ford convertible?

It seems to be doing Ok but boy a flat-head V8 had less than 200 lb-ft  and about 110 HP, of course everything else was likewise slower and powered.

I'm guessing.....that might have been more of a park model......

There were no luxury trucks back then....and driving a truck....was not something well heeled people did....

I didn't look for a listed weight...but prolly 5000lbs...

Getting it moving is one thing......but stopping/slowing down would be the real experience...

Good detective work there, I knew that Ford couldn't handle it, so really this thing needed a Lincoln or Cadillac or Packard to haul it which would be more in line with the profile of a potential buyer anyway.

George, thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories. I grew up with this film and i have always enjoyed it. Sure it is cornball........ but it is 1953. As a kid i tried never to miss it when it was on the tube. My folks always got the TV Guide and i use to go through it to pre check the old movies that were coming up and this film was always on my list of musts. I miss the days when they use to put many old films on every day of the weeks on the tube. That butt wipe Ted Turner changed everything in the 1980's with his complete GREED. Thanks for posting this. Cheers.

Here are examples of the movie cars, the Monterey that couldn't pull the trailer up a hill and the Capri which could.

The 53 Merc still had the 255 flathead while the Lincoln had the new 317 Y block OHV, a fair bit of difference performance wise.

Even the big trucks of the day were slow. You know what would have been a dandy tow vehicle? A 1940 Cadillac V16!
