Dumpster diving...never know what you will find!!!!!

Sooo..was heading south on my Island run when I pulled into a customers site. He had a 12yd scrap bin in front of his shop and I noticed a door poking it's head out. Looked in the bin and walla...65 chev PU door. Asked what he was doing with it and he said if you want it take it...said most of the truck is in the bin!!! He had the truck since he was 17..long story..but threw it out! I asked where the rest of the truck was(cab/frame/box),at a buddies. He drove me over to take a look. Pulled a ton of parts out of the dumpster! Dash cluster(2) heater boxes, cowls etc etc etc. Going tomorrow to pick up cab/box frame  65 chev short box fleet side. Not enough parts to build a complete truck...so giving it to the brother in law(has a 63) I'm keeping the headlight grill that I pulled out of the dumpster! Pays to dumpster dive!!smile

Good score. But why would anybody scrap all that? They could have posted it all for 50 bucks or so (or free). Someone would have taken it.

I agree. Parts like that would go quick here in Ontario. You guys in western Canada havent seen real rust. In the 70s cars disappeared from rust in four or five years. Our shop had a customer with a really nice Dodge Aspen wagon, it was eight months old and the dealership replaced both front fenders due to rust. Chevy and Ford pickups were really bad for rust also. Import cars were the worst though. The unibody cars were bad for structural rust after thre or four years.

I can't believe the prices they're bring these days all fixed up. I've owned 3 of them...1960 short fleet ,1964 short step, and a 1966 short step... all gone long ago...regrets you say?? Yup. Nothing scrap about that truck. Great score!
