428 out of a '69 GTO!! Really? More likely a Grand Prix/ Bonneville. I'd like to see the stamp pad on that beast to see exactly where it came from............With all the information available today why can't people decode anything before they "assume" what they think it is? My 2 cents that's all...........Maybe it's just the gearhead in me.

Yes, I read that too. Lots of wrong information out there, for sure.

That car looked great in the ad until you start looking. It really looks like a major project, but it sure would make a cool car when finished.

No mention of what transmission, if any but it does look like a 4 speed shifter.

That's a desirable body style these days. I personally know of a member on board here that has a 428 in a GTO, so I if a person were to use that engine in another car it wouldn't be false saying it came from a GTO.

Actually there were gto's that came with with 428's they were dealer installed by Royal Pontiac, they were called Royal Bobcat's, but there were never gto's that left the factory with 428's. I own a 69 gto with a 428 in it.

And what's that 69 gto with a 428 in it, like ?

Lots of power ? Is a 428 better for torque or horses ? I've always been curious about that engine.

428's were made three years 67-69 and made anywhere from 360 to 390 hp stock depending on year, mine is 68 and is a 390 hp, 68 had the better heads also, not sure about torque but have read around 470 lb ft. enough to cook the tires with no problems, no shortage of power also, i really like the 428, its been a good engine

326, 350, 389 and 400 all had 3.75" stroke cranks in them, 421 and 428 had 4.00 Crank and the 455 had a 4.21 crank. The longer stroke does help with TQ numbers. The 4.00 crank is a great balance of longer stroke and being able to still spin some RPM's assuming you have built up your valve train. All 421, 428 and 455 had a larger 3.25 main journal though where as 400 and under had 3" mains. My next engine for my 66 Catalina will be a 67 428 block, not sure if I will use the 4" crank or the 4.25 aftermarket one that I purchased a while ago. Most Blue Pontiacs are naturally TQ monsters, but can be built for HP.

 Spot-on info.

The ad didn't bring attention to it being a 2-door "post". Potentially neat car.
