My 63 Parisienne

I've got a question for you fellas. It's snowing heavily here right now..I've got truck and trailer on standby ready to go get my 63 home...when Winter takes a hike. In the meantime I've been looking over a bunch of old paperwork for the car ,some old insurance docs from the early 70's etc and noticed that the vin only has the "last 5"...not "6" digits..Is this right/common? In some later paperwork dating to the late 90's a 1 shows up on the end of the vin...hmm...Car's not here yet so I can't just go look at the tag.Seems to me that most if not all of my my previously owned rigs had 6 numbers....any thoughts?

Post your full vin but show the last 3 digits as xs, so we have a full picture of what you have. You do have good car taste.

I am pretty sure that they only have 5 numbers after the assembley plant

Ok so after some diggin around I've found some interesting stuff on numbers... Last couple of posts here www.stevesnovasite.com/forums/showthread.php .CT also has many interesting reads regarding canadian #'s. I've sent off my info to VVS and am waiting on them for more insight..like engine info and selling dealer for corroboration purposes. Likewise to you Don on tastes and I have read some your posts on the subject elsewhere as well!

I think that GM Canada omitted the production plant # on a number of years prior to 1965, because for a time Oshawa was the only plant producing them. Ste. Thérèse didn't open until 1965 so there was no question as to which plant. Regina hadn't produced cars in years, and Walkerville too! Therefore I believe that your '63 would actually have the full 6 digits as the unit #. Canadian Pontiacs & Chevrolets sold in the hundreds of thousands in Canada back then and it was conceivable to find that they produced 200,000 of a particular model of full-size car in Canada.

I dug mine out, it starts as 37847, then 5 numbers, so the same as yours Otus.

Got my reply from VVS today. Confirms selling dealer as Carter Motors of Kelowna B.C. Production date :Nov 19 1962...Delivery date :Nov 20 1962. Paint code Q = Marine Aqua. 283 2bbl Strato Flash 195 hp w/auto matic (2 spd)....So I now see that a 4bbl w dual exhaust was not stock to this car but installed (I think ) way back as an "owner upgrade". This is where I'm goin in my kooky head..Can't tell, obviously, about the options ...buckets and console, posi etc, but the cowl tag may reveil some info. The original owner says that this car was factory ordered with the 4bbl option but he/she/they did not buy it so it sat on the lot for sale and he bought it.Now having jibbered all that, I did get the engine number so I will be able to check on this as well.PO says he's got the original carb in a box for me....I guess where I'm going here is if this motor has been changed and other tidbits don't add up I may be posting an ad for a BB drivetrain as per those in the know!biggrin

Hi otus check the date code on the intake and it will tell you a couple things..my 64 also came factory with same engine but at some point was up graded to a 4B intake 300hp and carter carb also with the bigger exhaust manifolds...I am sure it helps over stock but still not enough HP for me..I am going the 327 40 over thing and that hopefully will be enough for me. if you put a big block in it you really should go all the way and go 4 gears as well  then theres rear gears  ..but it is a personal thing ..sharp car either way.!
