A '73 Stage 1 455 is a mother, yes even a '73. A 4-speed in ANY G-3 is a rare find. Nice car at one time but it would be a real challenge to restore unless one had a lesser '73 Buick Century that had lived in a cool, dark, dry place to cannibalize.

Probably an M21 Muncie with 2.20:1 low & a corporate 8.5" rear with 3.42:1 gearing. I don't know though, Oldsmobile meanwhile was being generous in placing 8.75" rears into Cutlasses

As it sits and as it is advertised, it is nothing much. What it could be and what it should be would be awesome.

I know, I couldn't believe that. Man, they're harsh.

Bud Lindemann liked it.

Only the ignorant would poo poo any Stage 1 Buick. It wouldn't take much to give that 455 the same power as the 1970 version.

Of course I like that car. I didn't find the comments too bad, then of course I've been used to hearing similar comments about my '73 for almost two decades. I suppose performance of my big block colonnade would be on par with this car and I can attest to the fact that I can scare the wits out of anyone who happens to sit in the passenger seat.

Pass on this car, and chances are you won't find another.

Unlike most other makes & models, the 73/74 Buick Stage 1 could run with a 72 version, and they all had loads of usable power. Not a hotter cam, but bigger valves & dual snorkel air cleaner plus a little underhood chrome. Plus HEI in '74.

Not that the car in question has it, but according to my calculations based on the documents shown in the ad, there were 14 1973 Gran Sport Stage 1s with manual steering. You don't want manual steering on a G-3 as it takes nearly 7 turns of the wheel lock to lock. Even big block Chevelles made PS mandatory starting in '73. I don't know for sure, but I think PS was not mandatory on the Pontiac Le Mans regardless of engine. Grand Am, yes (it was standard).

That car would be super sweet in restored condition but i wonder if it is really worth spending that kind of money on even with the 455 and four gear. Obviously it depends on how bad you love it. I for one have always appreciated this body style and i never knew they came with this special package. Hopefully she goes to a good home and not a house of horrors.

Well a perfect (under 9000 mile) Stage 1 4 speed 73 GS recently sold at Mecum for $55000 US. Hagerty valuates these cars in excellent condition at $13700 US (no premium mentioned for the 4 speed) so from a valuation standpoint no.
