57 Dodge 2 door sedan on Barn finds today - pink and black

The discussion of these cars always makes reference to a TV show called Highway patrol -  I have never seen it. I wonder if episodes are out there on You tube

I sure love those Forward Look Mopars! Here's an episode of Highway Patrol. I think they used mostly Buicks for police cars though

I remember watching the reruns of this show in the sixties as a kid. I do not remember the acting being this bad though. The only new cars you see are the 1955 Buick's because after all Buick division was paying the bills on this show.

 biggrin

When I was a kid I watched the original Batman show (1966 -67) religiously. I thought everything was so real/serious!biggrin

It fared much better than that new one that was buried underground in '57.

Dad's first new car was a '57 Plymouth Savoy 2-dr. It was salmon pink & white, had a flathead 230 six & fins. Spitfire six, they sell speed equipment for those...

MOPAR had some weird & obscure displacement engines back then. 325? 350? Canadian 313...

The latest on "Miss Belvedere" and now another Plymouth:

2015 - Resurrection

Seven years of exile finally end with some exciting news for dear Miss Belvedere. In June 2015, Dwight Foster finally secured a new home for the rusty old car. Historic Auto Attractions Museum of Illinois has agreed to give Miss Belvedere a permanent home amongst its 75 car collection. In summer 2017, the car was loaded into semi for transport to Illinois. The exhibit is set to open in 2018.

While it may not have been the fantasy ending to her journey many had hoped for, at least the car will live on for generations.

2048 - The Other Buried Plymouth.

The City of Tulsa just can get enough of burying Plymouths. Meet the Prowler, interred into the ground as part of the city's centennial. Interred in 1998, a full ten years before the unveiling of Miss Belvedere, this $300,000 prototype is of one of the last Plymouths ever made. It will remain in its crypt until 2048. There is one key difference between the two. The Prowler has been buried in an above ground vault. Someone realized that putting a car underground probably isn't the best idea. So how will this car look in fifty years? I guess we will find out in 2048!

I didn't know about the Prowler. Should have been a Viper!

Cool car.  Every time I look at any late fifties American/Canadian car, I'm amazed that they were even built.  Fins, huge chrome bumpers, wild two and three tone paint schemes with bright colours, pastels and lots of chrome work to divide it up, colour schemes brought over into the interiors with fabrics sometimes woven with shiny silver and gold fibres, dashboards that make a juke box look tame.... how did this happen?  How did peoples' tastes in automobiles get to the point that this was considered the norm?

I am glad it did, because I love late fifties cars, but am also 99% sure that this will never happen again, certainly not fins and aggressive front styling, due to pedestrian safety concerns.  The auto industry is way too conservative these days as well to take a chance like Chrysler did in 1957 and GM in 1959.  Perhaps the public was starting to tire of it as well, since GM and Ford toned everything down for 1961.  Chrysler didn't and was less successful in the market with the oddly styled '61s.

Anyhow... it looks like this one has already had a fender eyebrow repair, which was pretty much standard equipment.  Hope somebody gives it the restoration it deserves.
