B Body 4 speed, Speedo cable question,


Where does a passenger side Muncie speedo cable enter a 65-70 B Body? What does the grommet look like? Is it unique?

I'm pretty sure I queried this when I did my 70 4 speed conversion, and the answer was it enters the firewall in the same place as a cable for an automatic. The routing was in question though.

Mark, don't you know someone who has that answer???!!!

It goes parallel with the firewall across the back of the engine and then enters the car at a spot where there is a triangular depression punched in the firewall behind the driver's side valve cover.

And I made the mistake of not drilling the hole when I had the engine out. Now I have to figure out a way to do it. I may try it from inside.

Yes, I was pretty tickled to see it there with overspray intact when I bought the car. I do have a spare but this one is the original with the right date code on it too.

It looks like there's a dimple on the right side (looking back at the firewall) that would be drilled for the grommet.

I'll have to check the firewall in my 70 for the triangular area. It might not be there as there were no 4 speeds offered in 70.

Yup, the dimple is there. I just need to get a grommet to know the size and then time to figure out how to make the hole.

My plan is to keep the old grommet in the old hole and that will function as the hole for my temp gauge and oil gauge connections when I add the gauges.

Thanks Mark. I may not get the swap done this summer but I'll pay you for the grommet as soon as you know how much and I'll get it from you sometime.

Heck, maybe I'll come to Ontario and stay at Johnnee's place again for a while. He loves it when I come to visit....

 I like the aluminum coil also ... it adds a "Canadian" touch.
