On the show Highway Through Hell they talk about how flimsy trailers are nowadays to cut down on weight. It makes their wreck recoveries that much more dangerous.

We lost power for a couple hours ... a tree fell into a power line.

It appears the roof is made of canvas. No wonder it buckled.

Its the guys last name, Armour, ironic. Big company, 2-3000 power units, maybe 5000 trailers.

The bridge goes over water, that doesnt look wet Todd?

Armour says it was from high winds on the bridge. Surprised there wasn't restrictions. The photo was taking at Bordon (where the bridge is located)

I don't doubt that wind played a factor but that third set of wheels is a give away of the load.

Above you will see what happened one day at work about 10 years ago.

The forklift driver was not hurt.

He just took the ride down with the truck as he fell through the floor.

Like cars today, most trailers are unibody with little or no frame at all.

As the rivets in the cross members weaken, the whole system is due to fail.

I'm sure the transportation ministry will have a good look at this one.

When you see videos from the rear of these trailers being tossed by the wind, they are torquing sideways hard with the wheels lifting off the road on one side. I can see that leading to the floor bending like this, especially if there was no load or say a partial load up front. I guess he made it all the way across the bridge without flopping over on his side. With the bridge being 2 lane and low sided, that could have been a catastrophe. The bridge is the only way on and off the island this time of year, no ferry at Wood Islands yet?

You're right Don. The ferry doesn't start running until May 1. In the long term in my opinion it'd be cheaper to build a tunnel connecting Wood Islands to Nova Scotia. The ferry seems to be a money pit.
Plus with a tunnel you'd have year round access to the mainland from this part of PEI and be impervious to weather events. My

That trailer roof is made from one long roll of semi-translucent firbeglass. Light weight, and provides a bunch of light inside the trailer. As should be obvious, it doesn't do much structurally except to help hold the sides of the trailer together at the top. Not new tech...they have been built like this for well over 20 years. Frankly, the aluminum topped ones aren't any stronger, the aluminum sheet used is only .045" thick. Glorified beer cans...
