He doesn't state it is "as built". Do you think it's a "FAKE 67" or do you take it that it's the real thing?

Well, if it were a numbers car, I'm sure he would be promoting that fact.

I'd say as built.

Trans hump looks odd? As if there really isn't one.

I'd have to agree, though maybe just because we've all seen so many ads that say 'matching this and that', and if it were 'matching numbers' one would think the asking price would be more.

A supporting piece of evidence is the aluminum rad.  If it were an original matching everything car, one would think there would be an attempt to have an original-looking radiator (and rad hose, air cleaner, exhaust manifolds, etc.). Though it does have a GM accessory glass antifreeze bottle.  Is that a Ford 'caution fan' sticker?

None of these are slam dunks though.  Anybody could have put those parts on an original car if they didn't care about originality...

Does anybody have production numbers for 'real' Cdn Pontiac and Chevy full size 2 door sedans with big blocks and four speeds?  I'm thinking that the numbers would be low, and that they were originally ordered to be cheap (light?) full size cars to beat on, and thus I would expect their survival rate to be low.  Seems like there are a lot more of them out there these days than I ever remember seeing back in the day as well.

My guess is that it was a low mileage original car with a six or small eight, that was built into a hot rod.  Seems to be the way the hobby has been going in the past decade or so.  Few originals left, so why not just build a clone?

Regardless, it's a good price if the car is well sorted out.

Yup.  Shows nice.  If it works as good as it looks it will be a nice car for someone to enjoy.

Doesn't matter if it has little numbers that match a tag, or if the 56,000 miles are actually only on the body and interior...  I'd be happy to drive it.

In my mind, the 67 Chevrolet was the pinnacle of the GM B Body design.

Have to agree, except that I think the 2 door hardtop fastback (not Caprice) roofline is the actual pinnacle.  The lines flow very well on that one.

I like the post car, nice colour and if its a real 396, its correct and not a 454 which seems much easier to find? I drove one of these back in the day, ex mountie car, 396 auto, it would fly.

I'm always fascinated by this OPP Central Garage shot with the 67 post behind the AMC Post.

The Bel Air looks to be manual steering & manual brakes.

I asked seller if this was an original 396 4 speed car. No reply

Cool, I'll be curious to know.

Reason being, I need to get my car re-appraised and I want to have some ammunition for the appraiser if I'm as unhappy with the appraisal as I was 3 years ago when I had it done.

If you go with Hagerty you don't need an appraisal. You go online, fill out the application and tell them how much coverage you want, plus how you are going to use the car. They seem more flexible than other companies I've used. The premium is based on those factors. I used them for Connie's Lexus LS400. I had 10k coverage without any issue and without an appraisal.

We have to buy a basic policy with Manitoba Public Insurance.

After that, I use SGI out of Saskatchewan (as do a number of other people I know with collector cars).

I could check Hagerty too I guess.

That ain't no factory shifter bezel. The '67s had a distinctive 1-year-only bezel on bench seat cars. It was chrome and offset to the driver's side, but it also had a formed and raised center almost like a box. If the car had one originally it would be doubtful they'd trash it.

Below is a picture from another different '67 Bel Air 2-door 427 4-speed (Canadian built!). If you look closely at the chrome bezel on the floor you will see what I mean.

Deepwater Blue with medium blue interior, it reminds me of my friend's '67 Biscayne that his dad ordered new. It had a six & 3-speed, but it also was a Z04 hd chassis car with a stabilizer bar up front, a 12-bolt 4-link rear with Positraction, hd clutch, rad, alternator, battery, suspension... block heater,

It's not easy to see what you mean Cameron. This hump and trim thing  between the years  has really confounded  me.

Maybe you could make a post showing some of the changes?

I do see what Cam has shown, no question the car for sale does not have that bezel. Realistically, how many cars like this would have been made with a big block and 4 speed and then on top of that survived. No question the majority of two door sedans I knew as a kid were sixes and three on the tree. That's because the two door sedan was always the entry level or economy car in each line.

Easier said than done.

In the following pictures focus less on the shifter and more on the carpet ring vs. chrome pan with a flange.

The flexible carpet ring is shown on the blue '66 Chevelle SS396 bench seat 3-speed and is a faithful reproduction of the original. It is edging on the carpet opening and is matched to the carpet. 1966 and earlier Big Chevrolets, Chevelles & Chevy IIs used the setup (along with corresponding Canadian Pontiac & associate vehicles)

.

.

Next we have a '67-only chromed pan with flange used instead of the earlier carpet ring. As modeled by an extremely worn '67 Impala with 4-speed factory Inlands shifter. Used on '67 Chevelles & Beaumonts without consoles, Chevrolets & Canadian Pontiacs with benches.

Most 4-speed swap cars get an aftermarket type like this:

Just sayin'...

Thanks for the lesson!

Definitely different than this car.  More evidence that it's almost certainly a clone.
