Fedex rip off?

I ordered some shocks for my truck from Rock Auto and paid (>$50!) for shipping with Fedex.  Today I get a phone call from Fedex.  Apparently I am outside their area, so they dropped the boxes off at a depot in town.  I can pick them up there.  I said the Fedex truck makes regular deliveries to my neighbour, what gives?  That'd be the Ground division - different division, different area.

This is not the first time fedex has done this.  the last time i needed the parts ASAP and the quickest way to deal with it was to drive to town and pick up the parts.  This time, I still want my parts, but I'm feeling like I'm getting the short end of the stick.  I mean, in my mind, $50 for delivery usually means they actually deliver the packages to my actual address - the same address they had when the shipping cost was calculated.  I live on an acreage about 6 kilometers from the depot, but I am on a paved road and I am actually within the city limits.

Anyone else experience this with Fedex?  Is it just me, or does this sound like a scam?

I never use either one of these over priced company's. When ordering from the U.S. i only use the U.S. ground postal service. It takes a bit longer but i am a very patient person.

Yes I'm afraid shipping into Canada only works with USPS. All those other ones hurt you bad. The exception is if you buy something from Summit and get it with all the expenses prepaid. That way you see the total cost before it even leaves.

The place I work we need to rush items in on occasion due to customers plant shut downs, planned and unplanned.

Commercially we have an account that uses UPS to pick up, uses our broker and delivered by purolator. Most times for smaller items the cost is about 50 to 60. I recently had a next day delivery from Greenbay to Regina, 9lb box, was $247.

I called FedEx directly. Apparently their system shows that it was requested that the parcel be left at the depot for pick-up. I asked who had made that request, because it wasnt me. After a brief hold, they came back to assure me they would follow up. When I asked, they said that in the future, I should expect the parcel to be delivered to my address.

Im not real keen on giving FedEx another opportunity but Ive been around long enough to know, Never say never.

I heard a rumour that they were going to merge the two companies and they are going to name it FED-UP

FED-UP

Good one Lawrence!!

I feel for these guys. Here in BC with gasoline up to $1.70+ per liter in the lower mainland, and about $1.40/litre elsewhere, that's got to hurt, big time. But, you still have to colour inside the lines.

Here's an interesting story. You can decide if it might be related.

FED-UP, now that is funny.

Have a recent experience as well but I am partially at fault because I went with the great price over proper vetting. I bought a camera lens on Ebay from what I would find out was a sketchy pawn shop in Brooklyn NY.

I bought the lens while away in Victoria and the delivery at home involved a neighbour and good will. The lens was to be shipped USPS @ 59.99 USD and with the great price on lens that was acceptable. However, it became apparent after even  getting USPS tracking # the lens was not moving. Long story short. The shipper took a week to send and instead of reactivating USPS shipping sent it UPS. You know what happened, I had to track down the truck on delivery day from Victoria, to deliver to neighbour who was home luckily because UPS needs signature and they charged $40 cdn to accept and deliver. The shipper never did refund my intial USPS cost of $59.99 USD that wasn't used, nice scam by shipper to pocket the USPS shipping costs. So much for a great deal being great, it was a nightmare and I deserved it. Should have googled the Brooklyn address before hitting the buy now button. The neighbourhood of the pawn shop was all you would expect from any NY crack infested burrough.

If it comes down to it, I will take FedEx any day over UPS.

I have had good luck with Fedex and USPS on delivery and not adding additonal charges. UPS is the worst at charging brockerage and anything else they can get away with.
