$6,000 seems like a lot of cash for the negatives terms of the sale.....

"Being sold AS IS and as per OMVIC regulations: This vehicle is being sold as-is, unfit,

not e-tested and is not represented as being in roadworthy condition,

mechanically sound or maintained at any guaranteed level of quality.

The vehicle may not be fit for use as a means of transportation

and may require substantial repairs at the purchasers expense.

It may not be possible to register the vehicle to be driven in its current condition."

Used car dealer has to say that legal disclaimer per OMVIC regulations. Its a standard old car being sold as is, has anyone ever bough one any other way?

OMVIC is Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council, a consumer protection agency set up to keep used car dealers honest with Joe and Jane Q Public who are buying the 3 and 4 year old Civics and Sonatas.

Looks a lot like the one that was for sale near Carl S. in Morris a few years back.  To me, it looks like a decent car for the money. Does look like it's going to need a windshield though.

1959 Pontiac Laurentian, 4-door sedan. 6-cylinder inline engine, 3-speed on tree manual transmission. All original (including paint) vehicle in great running condition. New brakes all around including brake cylinders, recent tires. Exact kilometers unknown (5-digit odometer), comes with ownership and lot of keys. Runs great, everything works on it! No rust anywhere. Good looking car with lots of chrome on it. $5999.00 plus HST tax. Please call 519-588-0311 or 519-581-5665

Looks like a good buy. It looks like someone took the liberty of emptying a couple of cans of rubberized undercoating underneath it.

Yeah, that always raises suspicions with me.  I wish they would just leave it alone so you could see what's there (or isn't there).

It does look solid, but you would probably want to poke around underneath with a screw driver to make sure there is something solid underneath the undercoating...

As soon as I saw the pictures I had the same thought. I bet it's the car. I know my brother was hired by someone to haul it to the buyer's home in Ontario, which he did.

Cool! Of course I have a bit of a bias. Its certainly all there.

The undercoating is a bit concerning.. At first glance, I thought it had the ' underbody self oil coating mechanism' like mine does / did.

I recall considering that one when it was in your neighborhood.  If it is the same one, it looks like it picked up a couple grand in price on the way.  I think it was for sale for $3500 when in Morris?

The thing that bothers me about the undercoating is that it's fresh - you can see where it oversprayed onto the exhaust system and hasn't burned off yet.  So, it's at a used car dealer who presumably saw some issue and so decided to cover it up with undercoating for the sale?  This might also be an indication as to why the dealer didn't go to the trouble to certify it (?).

Oh yes... and LOL about the 'underbody self oil coating mechanism'... been there, done that, bought the t-shirt... biggrin

Without a doubt.  Though if this was in the shape that the Pinto is in, it would probably be more than $13,000?

Rocker panels are solid. Doesnt look like that they collapsed when lifting the car.

No MC and imho that pinto is worth a lot less than $13k? Needs a 383 and a blower to be worth that.

And I also said more about thw dumb donkeys that lift this and many other vehicles on their rockers when a solid frame is right there or very accessible ... (had to edit my language)

A) I agree the Pinto is not worth 13K, nor did I say it was.  Why would you want to put a Mopar engine in it? biggrin

B) The Pinto looks to be mint (which is why I posted it).  If that '59 was positively mint, what would it be worth?  I mean shiny paint on the bottom, the whole bit.  Mint.

Edit... when I say mint, I mean something like a Canadian sedan version of this: https://forums.aaca.org/topic/298229-1959-pontiac-star-chief-incredible-survivor-sold/

That's a good point, it speaks to how solid this car must be.

So how do you guys with X-frames do it on modern hoists?  When I had my '60 Bel Air years ago I had a heck of a time getting the pads on the frame using a 2 poster.  It had to be in just the right spot with the arms extended the whole way... then there was the pesky muffler right in the path of one of the arms.  Would never use the rockers as they are not reinforced for lifting, but can see how some guys in a shop would be tempted to do it, especially if they didn't have their brain with them that day.

It was no problem with the old style lift with the central cylinder... wink

Well, MC, you have pretty much summed it all up. These damn X frames are a bugger to say the least. I have never and will never leave my '64 at a shop without staying to oversee the situation or, actually babysit. Actually, I do the same thing with all 6 of my vehicles. It is just the way I am built; I trust no one. One has to basically tell the mechanic where to place the pads. I am extremely loyal to good shops and don't have a problem since the shop I patronize has the drive-on type hoist. In my case, since my CS is a convertible, I have to make sure to unlatch the convertible top latches near the sunvisors so they don't get buggered up. I, too, have heard numerous stories of mechanics trying to lift cars under the rockers. I should not admit this but I usually ask for the oldest mechanic in a shop. Hopefully, experience has done its job.

Thanks Pritch, for confirming my frustration point in lifting X frames.  I imagine it was never a problem back in the day when most, if not all, shops had the hydraulic lift with the center post that came up from the floor, or (heaven forbid) a grease pit.

The ramp-style lifts are great, as long as you don't have to work on brakes or suspension.

I'm of similar mind when it comes to my cars, in fact I typically try to do all the work on them myself, when time allows.  Typically, however, my schedule does not allow me to babysit the car on the rare time I take them to a shop.  Not all shops will allow customers in them anymore, either, for insurance reasons and whatnot.  It's always a tense couple of hours if I ever take my machinery to a shop... then of course followed by the lookover and the hope that I don't find something unpleasant...
