Was never a fan of the block of wood thing, but I'm admittedly pretty picky about such things.  Have seen at least one instance where the block of wood slipped out because it wasn't centered properly, and down came the truck.

Our newer lifts have adjustable pads, but I no longer have an X frame to try it out on... cry

Exactly! Not the block of woods fault but the block of wood who put the block of wood improperly placed in the 1st place... and, it happens!

2018 Pathfinder just now...

I also noticed that the blocks you use are quite wide to give a good flat contact patch!

Light years better than this...

Wood on hoist arm, not even on pad, and it looks like it just has the corner catching the rocker panel flange... which isn't supposed to support the weight of the car anyhow... so much wrong with this setup.

Not even sure what the hoist pad is supporting on the other side... is it a fender bracket?  Whatever it is, it appears to be freshly greased with undercoating...

This is the type of situation that scares the heck out of me.  Notice at 55 seconds, the block of wood falling down, just as all hell breaks loose...

The most important thing I was taught about placement of wood blocks between hoists and vehicle underbodies, is the placement of the grain of the wood... that is possibly what happened to the Dodge in the above video... looks as though the block fractured... he may have had block placed lengthways with the grain instead of across it on the high leg of the hoist and the leg acted like a wood splitter... (???)

Anyways, enough derail... and DANO, I may start another thread on that X-frame I have in the pic... it's been a 2 year thorn thus far.. I still have to finish the Estate trip I did coming on 3 years already.

That's another reason I don't like using wood, the tendency of it to split... but you're right, enough of the derail.  That's a nice looking Pontiac! smile
