That is a very nice example of these cars and as always how do you value a car that is basically a brand new 43 year old car? I do find it interesting that a car so original and low kms. has been illegally modified, as I assume the catalytic converter has been removed when the dual exhausts installed.

Cat's aren't required on pre-1989 cars here in PEI. May be the same for NS

No emissions test here. No checks for original equipment either with regards to emissions.

I just checked the statute in Nova Scotia and it in 1991 and later that must conform to emission equipment regulations. This means that purchasers should be careful when registering a car in another province. In Ontario for example the regulations prohibit removal of any emission equipment on any year. If it was built with it it must have it.

Ray, I have never heard of anyone having a problem with the province on removal of emissions equipment. I've never heard of anyone having an emissions inspection. Your advice is very good on buying vehicles out of province and registering them in ON and other places with emissions rules and checks.

For Ontario members this is a reality and has been a topic of dozens of threads on this forum for many years. DualQuad Pete knows infinite details on the violations cited in Durham and Kawartha regions of Ontario.

If I have this correct, in NS it only involves a visual inspection to see if the equipment (1991 vehicles and newer) is in place, but there are no requirements for actual emissions testing (thankfully). I think most techs inspecting a car will fail it if it obviously doesn't have the equipment, as their license is on the line, but I'm sure in some (more rural) environments certain things get overlooked from time to time...

See the NS inspection manual, page 70 of the pdf.  https://novascotia.ca/sns/rmv/inspection/inspection_manual.pdf

Ontario's stance has been quite draconian in comparison, especially on antique/special interest vehicles, most of which are probably driven less than 1000 km per year.   I'm surprised Dougie hasn't done something to help that along yet.  That's the kind of stuff they should be looking at.

Here in NS, Antique vehicles are far less scrutinized, taking into account the limited usage of such vehicles - a far more common sense approach than Ontario's, IMHO.

https://novascotia.ca/sns/rmv/registration/antique-plate.asp

In 2 more years, those 1991 vehicles will be considered antique (30 years old) and will be exempt from the emissions equipment requirements if registered as an antique.

Of course, things can change in an instant, and all it takes is for a government to think they will get votes if they crack down on us 'evil polluters' driving around these old 'dinosaur' cars...
