12 bolt rear cover with or with out notch?


as title says, what is the different applications for?

No notch is the Chev style diff. Always used in Chevy, some BOP A bodies used it for certain applications. It has the upside down V stamped into it from the inside. All the other 12 bolts are BOP I believe.

Ya the smooth cover was Olds-I used to see them in scrapyards-they are easy to spot.At least that was my experience anyway-don't ever recall seeing a smooth 12 bolt in any Buick-even the 70 455 cars had 10 bolts-unless maybe Canadian made cars.
