'67 Chevelle SS396 on kijiji NS

I would guess it will probably be used in a rebody, unfortunately, as there doesn't seem to be much left of it and the potiential for financial gain from creating a "numbers matching" (i.e. fraud) car is there...

The seller is making it obvious that this is the intended outcome.

Yes, a thinly-veiled sales pitch for sure!

I'm sure it can be salvaged. If I had the space/money/time I would tackle it. My first car was a '67 SS 396/375hp M22 car- but that was way back in '83. Blew the motor up 2 hours after I bought then parted the car out. If only we could go back in time.......Still miss that car.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Nova Scotia cars, but if that's like other ones I've seen that have been sitting on grass for decades, there is probably nothing left of it below the doors.

But... I'm not doubting you.  I've seen some pretty sorry cars resurrected by replacing just about everything.

I'm the one that bought it. The car was rolled back in the 70's. Firewall, A pillars, and rockers are still good (to my pleasant surprise). Still has the standard shift column, pedals, all the glass and the SS dash is still in great shape.
I have a 67 that was hit on the front and the firewall was mangled and has no VIN. I'll do the same as what they did back in the day, to any other car that was rolled, and cut it at the middle of the A pillar and the middle of the rocker and make one car out of two. Completely legal. As long as I save as much original sheet metal that I can it's not a re-body. I know it's a grey area but the car I have will only donate the roof, partial rockers, and skeleton. I have new quarters, inner and outer wheel houses, trunk pans, floor pans, hood, fenders, etc, etc.
So how far can a person go with buying new metal and replacing everything on the original car before you call that a rebody or fraud? And what about using only a section (roof and skeleton) of another car, to cut down costs on buying those parts, does it become a rebody or fraud? Not building it for anyone else but myself anyway.

Good post Yams and good luck with getting your project going and completed. There is a highly coveted car that appears on this forum from time to time that is actually parts of 3 cars yet I have never heard anything about fraud, in fact people lust after it and marvel at how rare it is.

Sounds like the best person for the car got it.  Best case scenario.

FWIW, you hear so many stories of people buying the tags and VIN of a rotted out or written off muscle car and using that identification to pass off a replica as an original, you tend to assume the worst.  Lots of fake cars out there being sold as originals, or so I hear.

That is not what you are talking about doing, IMHO.  Good luck with the project.

Thanks guys. Im with you all on the switching of VINs and cowl tags. Thats a no-no.
I was looking for another Chevelle to build and this happened to pop up and its kind of the best of both worlds for me. I can do the work, have the space, maybe no all the money right now , but hey Ill give it a crack!
I dont want to be the guy that cuts a few pieces out of the firewall and door pillar with the tags still attached and transfer those. If I have rebuild some of the firewall with new pieces, Ill buy new so that its in line with restoration and not pulling a fast one. Well see what happens. Itll be a long time until anything happens. I have a 72 Nova thatll be painted and ready for me the tinker on during this coming winter, and car show season is here so Im bombing around in the 66 Chevy 2. The Beaumont SD might find a new home to get restored, and we have 3-55 Chevs in the queue too. Too many cars, not enough hours.
Cheers boys,
Ill let you know what happens down the road

Just received the VVS (Vintage Vehicle Services) documentation from George Zapora.

1967 Chevelle Super Sport
Marina blue paint upper and lower
396- 350HP
M-20 4 speed manual
3:36 12 bolt posi
Black bucket seats
Console
Black vinyl roof
Metallic brake pads
Blinker tach

Definitely going to restore it. Being a 350 HP 4 speed car makes it a lot better in my mind.
I drove a 67 throughout high school and off and on through university, so i have a soft spot for them.
Ill let you guys know what transpires.
Cheers

PS. I know its a weird thing to do, but Im salvaging as mush as possible from the car. Rear package tray, trunk spring brackets and what theyre attached to, rear sail panel and rear door card area , rear tail light panel, door catch area, of course the full firewall, dash, A pillars, rockers, all the glass, the column, pedals, and pretty much any metal I can take as a complete unit with drilling out spot welds. Going to be a JENGA project, but Im determined to keep AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE of the original metal.

Is that the actual car? Yes, a build thread is warranted!

Good stuff. Nice to see it being saved. The 67 sd you sold is almost finished being restored and it needed the same amount of work so there is hope for the Chevelle. Are you using parts from the Arizona body?

Hey Randy! Using a different body. We have another one that has a messed up firewall so Im going to use it. Needs a bunch of metal, but the Arizona body is too nice to cut up

Sounds good. The Yarmouth show is getting really good turnout since they moved it downtown. Increasing numbers every year.

Cool, another muscle car from Bob Mcdonald's in Halifax.

There was a thread on this forum about that dealership a while ago:

Redlines on 14x6 body-coloured wheels with small hub caps, vinyl roof cover... It sounds like new mags were destined for the car. Also note the manual metallic drum brakes. That may have a unique master cylinder on it, don't scrap it! I'd take it if you aren't using it...
