Hi all,

Had this car drop iny lap and just couldn't resist as always wanted a first gen Camaro.  Came close on the coupe one Carl looked at for me too.

At least this one was a Canadian sold car, got my VVS doc already,  originaly sold in Didsbury AB. 327 4 speed car with F41 performance suspension.  originally Sequoia Green but painted charcoal silver grey in the 80's  Other than colour change just so original and solid.

Plan to still hang out here as I can't say how long I'll own this one wink, figured drop top 4 speed car I can always recoup my money. And since its still a 60's GM lots of what I learn from the experts here will still help out!

A couple pics for grins, and yes, the wheels need to go lol

Nice car, Calvin! The '68s benefited from staggered rear shocks to solve the axle hop issue. Which 327 did it have, base or L30? The L30 + M20 combo netted a 12-bolt rear.

That engine should have one of those safety cables that were a GM fix for the motor mount issue of the day. I still see new-old-stock GM kits on eBay periodically.

F41 = rear bumper guards. I believe this is due to compliance with the bumper height standards when stiffer multi-leaf springs are included & ride height may change.

Sequoia Green is unusual on a Camaro:

Thanks Cameron, just the base 210 HP version though a 350 now. Does still have that factory engine mount safety cable. Didn't even know that was factory but guy I bought from in Prince George BC was a camaro guru and pointed out (he had a mint 68 L78 4 speed coupe).  Didnt know bumperette issue either but does have back ones, fronts missing, though noted on VVS doc.

When you search through the Kijiji forum here with cars for sale, you'll find lots of talk about red heater hoses! And none of it positive!!!

Congrats on the score, Calvin!  You've been looking for awhile, so it's nice to see you find one, and it's a beauty (except the wheels... lol)!  It's amazing that, after scouring the entire country, including considering one on the opposite coast, you have one drop in your lap!   And a 4-speed no less!

I can envision many happy miles with the top down on this one.

And yes, please do stick around.  Canadian Pontiac ownership is not a requirement for this site, only enthusiasm.  At least that's how I think it works as I haven't owned a CP in years and Todd hasn't given me the boot yet! (though maybe Carl is thinking about it...  wink)

Thank you Mark, I know you've been a great sounding board for my constant postings about cars I've found etc. and even sent a few my way to follow up on.

The methods of car searching have changed so much, years ago I waited impatiently for Thursday to arrive as that's when the Auto Trader/Buy & Sell to hit the local 7-Eleven, then in the last few years it was CL, Kijiji etc. searches, now Facebook sites seem to be a place a lot of guys post??  This one came up on the Vancouver Camaro FB site and I saw it 12 minutes after it was posted..lol.  I had full intentions of trying to get over the Sechelt to view AZ69's father in laws 68 SD, but the ferry system is so painful here, all the reservations for that place are booked weeks in advance, so when this one came up I had to make a snap decision the day after I contacted him......which I'm not good at but I held my breath and jumped in.    Had a tiny pang of regret not actually seeing that 68 SD but figured a 68 Camaro 4 speed Convertible is always going to be an easy sell...should I change my mind. LOL.

Great seller, talked on the phone for an hour, he sent 2 dozen pics of the 'bad' areas, then when I wanted to know more about chassis/frame/floorpans he took videos of him poking around with an awl everywhere to show how solid.  Again only his word, but assured me he would refund my deposit and even kick in gas $ if it wasn't as he described...which of course it was.   He has owned 25+ Camaros over the years and his shop was to die for!!!  4 bays, double depth, 1 overheight with a lift, 2 killer Camaros plus 2 old GM Trucks and a '55 Chevy Gasser projects in process, 4 killer engines on stands, old gas pumps, pedal cars, etc etc...should have taken pictures.

As I mentioned happy to keep hanging out here and learning since the base mechanicals on my car are very similar, and nearly identical to a 68 Firebird.  Just realized I never made a donation to this site as I promised after Carl looked at that other 68 Camaro for me in June....I'll get on it!!

Awesome!

I recall waiting for the Bargain Hunter (where the really good deals could be had) to come out each week. I even recall finding out which stores received their deliveries first and trying to get out to get one before the good deals were bought up (rarely ever worked out that way).

Then came the internet... always check kijiji (craigslist not so popular on the east coast) for that 'just right' deal... then usually think about it and decide against it, and watch it disappear... (lol).

Haven't moved to facebook yet, as I don't tend to gravitate towards social media of any type.  I did look it up a while ago and couldn't figure out the search feature... I put in the criteria (pre-1975) but most of the vehicles that appeared did not adhere to that criteria for some reason.  Oh well, I'll figure it out someday.  Currently I don't have time/energy to throw an old car into my life anyhow - too many other 'jobs' that have to be done first...

Don't recall Bargain Hunter but I only started looking maybe 1986, 87 and on.  It's funny how certain sites are more regional, I understand CL started in San Fran CA so I guess more of a West Coast thing?   Funny you mention the "think about it and decide against...then it's gone" comment, I've done that more times than I can count! LOL.

FB seems to 'learn' your interests so pretty much only car/motorcycle stuff comes up for me, lots of good closed car sites too, but fairly easy to access/see so I'm a little more guarded about what I post since it's still a pretty public forum....

I have little time for the car too in the grand scheme of things....I just like knowing it's waiting for me in the garage if I want to go out there and just poke around... pretending I know what I'm doing....LOL

Thank you, a bit more of a 'belly button' car than a Canadian Poncho for sure but I'm happy to be it's next caretaker!
