UPS vs USPS

Recently purchased auto wiring online from a place that specializes in Chevelles but luckily did not proceed to checkout.

Here's why.

Wiring and cables were US$300 plus UPS shipping US$63.00 plus UPS taxes and duties US143. = US$506.

This converts to CA$683.10 using 1.35.

Went to American Autowire online, have ordered from them before and was very satisfied

Here's why..

Wiring and cables same price US$300. plus US$50.55 for USPS Priority shipping = US$350.55

This converted to CA473.24 using 1.35.

Upon arrival Canada Post charged hst approx CA$61.00    for a total of CA$533.50

a long way from CA$683. if I had used UPS.

Oh and BTW - Summit now offers free shipping to Canada on orders over US$299.

now where is that Mastercard.........L Y N D A !!!

UPS, basically never, has been my experience too. Fedex has been much more reasonable.

Twenty five + years ago UPS used to mail an invoice for taxes and duties after the delivery.........that sucked.

Have used Fed Ex Ground regularly on Summit purchases and the goods are shipped from Woodbridge, Ontario

In 2012 when i was at world of wheels winnipeg i had a long talk with Summit about UPS versus Fedex, i never got charged anything at my door with fedex but UPS would try charging me 200-400 dollars and that's why i shopped Jegs. They shipped fedex. UPS got caught for overcharging or something a few years ago.

This topic has been discussed here many times before and the conclusion has always been AVOID UPS FOR CROSS BORDER SHIPMENTS INTO CANADA

Absolutely. I have no issues using UPS when I get something sent the the border and then I go across to pick it up at the parcel place, but NEVER into Canada.

I always use USPS or Fedex if I have the choice. No unexpected fees that way.

Ill tell you I was charged $1200 once by UPS. Even the worker that took payment at the door was shocked and said he has never seen this... never again...

USPS or nothing when I have parts shipped into Canada!!! Any other parts That I "NEED" and can wait,I have shipped to friends in USA & pick them up there, also have had some suppliers refuse to ship to a PO Box # here & get "ugly' when I explain "that's how I get my mail, NO DOOR DELIVERY" & usually a " WHAT" that's NUTS!!!!! My friends down there get 6 days a week mail delivery to door & USPS also picks up out going mail right at their porch!!!!

I do the same,if it can wait it goes to friends in portland so I dont pay taxes

If I need it soon it goes to a parcel handler just across the boarder or amazon with free delivery

never had to pay duty either

very lucky to be living on the border and have my own PO box on the other side. With a loading dock they pretty much take anything. for my mailing address there I use a unit number instead of a PO box number for the people that don't ship to PO box # . No BS shipping charges or brokerage fees just pay taxes coming back in to Canada

25 minute ride for me but same deal, a physical address which makes sellers very happy.

I had one Amazon Canada deal where they insisted it had to be a street address. I kept waiting for the courier to bring it and sure enough..............it showed up in my post office box..............
