tailgate problems


66 strato chief wagon...problem with the tailgate... tailgate can't open because the window doesn't go down... window doesn't go down and so the tailgate can't open... any suggestions?

yes there is a switch on the dash, but I've never used it, always just go to the back and use the key

? Why wouldn't you try it? I use mine all the time? In all my wagons! You may have to try it, watch your ammeter/dome lamps to see if there is a current draw...

Maybe the motor is seized or a wiring issue! If nothing else, check to see if there is least 12v to the power wire of the switch to confirm there is at least power available for operation?

Circuit breaker on the firewall? Power to the breaker?? Power after the breaker???

These are things to check before you can expect the window to attempt to do anything,

You might have to climb back there and remove the door panel to have access. I've had my ground wire come loose before .
