What I do when I see this happen here-

1) Right click and copy the link

2) Open a new window, paste the link into the address bar and open the window

3) Cut the link out of the address bar. Open the thread where I want to post it, click "Reply" (not "Post Quick Reply because that won't work for me) and paste it into the reply box. That seems to be foolproof for making it a live link.

Maybe Graveyard Carz are the only ones that can save this carcass. I wonder what the tags actual conditions are like?

There is a fellow here in Calgary who restored a SuperBird that was burnt as well. It is a Hemi car and it is stunning to say the least. So it can be done.....

It's interesting that they grafted a Road Runner Air Grabber to the hood (Superbird used a modified Coronet hood and front fenders), as they originally weren't available with any hood scoop option.

This one seems like it should go to the crusher to me.  Even if it could be restored, the steel has been changed by the heat, whether it was quenched or annealed (or likely a combination of both), it will not have the same characteristics of the original.  IMHO, even if the buy-in was free it wouldn't be worth the time. The fact that the roof almost melted and caved in makes me think that the body would not longer be dimensionally accurate.

Of course, the most likely scenario is somebody buying a Satellite and grafting the Superbird-specific parts to it (like the rear window plug, for example), and the VIN, and passing it off as a restoration.

Sometimes you just have to let them go...

It'll go through the auction after restoration as a 'Survivor', not that my opinion is jaded or anything!

Here's a YouTube link to a story of a similarly burnt & destroyed 1968 Shelby GT500KR convertible.

Plum Crazy Restorations took it on. I have seen the video for the restored car and it looks fine, but I don't have the link.

I'm with you, MC. That steel has been affected fundamentally. You never know, but I would expect the metal to be warped and oil-can all over.

...If the fender tag on the Superbird is destroyed, then nobody would want the car because the tag can't be harvested & re-assigned (which is totally illegal anyway...)

Yes chances are good that the tags melted being they are aluminum. Not worth the buy-let it go.......
